(6.51) internal zip doesn't work on big file

Post by *sorex »

Hello,

I just tried to ZIP a Live State Recovery file of 5Gb with the internal zip routines (alt-F5), all it gives is a "Can't open/access file"-error

is there a limit for internal zipping of files?

AFAIR there is a only 2GB limitation (compatibility reasons) for zipping with internal-TCmd-zip.
For unzipping there is no such limit (?)

There is a limitation of 4 gig, when using Fat32(edit: for extraction) instead of NTFS.
Maybe its that

ok then it's a TC ZIP limitation, it's both NTFS filesystem otherwise I wouldn't be able to have that 5Gb file ;)

maybe you should either

-get rid of the limitation
-give a "filesize beyond internal zip limit"-error instead of the error I got?

The TC ZIP packer has the following limitations:
1. The packed files may not be larger than 2 GB
2. The resulting archive may not be larger than2 GB

The TC ZIP unpacker has the following limitations:
The archive may not be larger than 2 GB, although the files in it may be larger than 2 GB each. This limitation will be removed in the next version of TC (6.52 probably).

The restrictions in the packer are there because the original ZIP standard didn't support larger files. I find it a bit risky to change the zip packer now, it has been working very well for many years, and I don't want to risk to break it.
