is there a way to view photoshop thumbs? (.psd)

Post by *qda »

in thumbnail view, .psd files dont show up as thumbs.. just icons..

i have 'get from irfan/xnview' selected under Loading Thumbnails for *.*

i know that xnview can open psd files.. so why dont they show up in TC?

First of all the Shell Extension installed by Adobe Photoshop 7 seems to work in Explorer only. Maybe there is a bug in the Shell Extension? Which Photoshop version do you use?

To use XnView/Irfanview instead you have to add/alter the following line to your Wincmd.ini:
IviewAdditionalTypes=.psd
You may add more supported types seperated by semicolon. Restart Total Commander after applying the setting.

By a space

:) Hello Christian!
- For IviewAdditionalTypes=…, the files types are separated by a space only, not a semi-colon…

hmm... didn't work...

i added that line to wincmd.ini

you're sure thats what it is? i dont see it in the help file..

also, it gets erased from the .ini if i save it while TC is running..
but it stays if i save it while TC isn't running and then run TC..

dunno if thats relevant because .psd thumbs are still not showing up.. just the regular Xnview icon..

Alright in the Help !

:) Hi !
- In the Help and the Tutorial >>> 4. Configuration and switches >> b). <Wincmd.ini> :
[Lister]
IviewAdditionalTypes=
Additional file types which should be passed to Irfanview/Xnview for conversion
Example: *.xyz *.abc
* You might check that the <wincmd.ini> you have in the <Windows> dir. is the one that TC is using !
- For a while, the default location for <wincmd.ini> when installing / updating TC is the TC-dir itself…

 Kind regards,
Claude

well i'm editing whichever wincmd.ini pops up when i click Configuration > 'Change Settings Files Directly' .. that should take me to the right .ini right??

and yeah, i did see that help tutorial and i did put in the extension as *.psd but still no luck

so i guess i'm doing both right, but i still dont see thumbs for .psd files

any other suggestions?

i have both xn and iview installed.. latest versions..

the psd files are maximum compatibility and can be viewed from within xn or iview themselves..

under Configuration, my settings are as follows:

Database Location: default
copy/delete thumbs with files CHECK
show custom fields CHECK
custom fields: [=tc.size.kbytes] kb
thumb size 192x128 (not fields by type)

Loading thumbs
Get from lister plugins for: *.* CHECK
Use Explorer method OLE2 for: *.* CHECK
Get from irfan/xnview for: *.psd CHECK
Plain text file thumbs for: *.txt *.ini CHECK

any suggestions? can anyone here actually view psd files as thumbs in their TC??

ps. does it matter where i place the 'iviewadditionaltypes' line within the .ini?

i tried at the very bottom and under the [Lister] heading and neither seemed to work after restarting TC..

..
:( please help guys its driving me nuts, i'd LOVE to keep using TC as my image file manager but i have a lot of psd files that i can't see the thumbs of and it sucks :(

k well ive found sort of a cure..

http://www.notestips.com/80256B3A007F2692/1/TAIO-68UEVH

that gives you the dll to enable explorer to view the thumb..

but goin thru xn.irfanview still doesnt work.. and the explorer way like mentioned above sucks - the thumbs are ugly..

Get from lister plugins for: *.* CHECK
Use Explorer method OLE2 for: *.* CHECK

Get from irfan/xnview for: *.psd CHECK
Plain text file thumbs for: *.txt *.ini CHECK
Try unchecking those shown in bold, so only iview / xnview are used.

BTW: Do you see psd files when viewing them in Lister?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

:) Hello !
- I'm using exactly the Roman's method above, and I get alright the *.psd as well as thumb-nails as in Lister (XnView 1.74 as partner-program).

:) Hello !
- No, I have not PhotoShop at all. Too greedy at resources, because I work mainly under Win 98 SE, though this usual PC is so powerful…
