Suggestion: Mouse Gestures ...

Post by *Mikey Boy »

Using Maxthon (formerly MyIE2) has made me appreciate the fuctionality and ease of mouse gestures. I believe this could be extremely useful in TC.

The Maxthon site http://www.maxthon.com/features.htm has a nice overview of this functionality.

Some possible uses in TC:
Left mouse move - go up one level (..)
Right mouse move - drill down one level if positioned on a folder
Up and left mouse move - activate left tab
Up and right mouse move - activate right tab

Also - (while discussing third-party tools) Yahoo Desktop Search (IMHO) seems an excellent addon/replacement for TC search. I've been frustrated by TC Search's inability to specify a variety of directories NOT to search - (Temp Internet Files, Cookies, Recyle ins, etc) I have found that TC search spends most of time in these folders ... YDS is completely configurable to exclude whichever folders you'd like and is incredibly fast (after indexing of course ...)

Just wanted to say that I personally use TC so I won't have to use the mouse and only the keyboard (mostly).
Not that I don't welcome this suggestion but I just don't hink I'll be using it very often, but you never know :)

Found this as a starting point which is licensing free but probably needs modification for TC's Delphi 2 compiler:
http://stefan.huberdoc.at/comp/software/mousegestures.html

Looks promising and size is modest.

This also seems to be referenced from the Syn Text Editor which is open source and powered by Delphi:
http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/c50free/MouseGestures.zip

http://web.utanet.at/ascherst/syn/

"Added Mouse Gestures! AFAIK syn is now the only Texteditor supporting Mouse Gestures!"

BTW, I have started a poll on the issue here: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=7249

Thanks so much - great find ...

Hope Christian decides to run with it.

Until I used Maxthon, I was skeptical but now find mouse gestures to be an incredibly efficient navigation aid.

Thanks again ...

100% not - I want a TextEditor that has SHORTCuts for EVERYTHING, is small and FAST like NoteXPad - IMHUO Editor=Keyboard only :P :D :o

Well, there's a fine line between joking and making a serious statement. We may have misused emoticons! ;)

Anyway, mouse gestures are virtually applicable on any kind of application since they are related to an application's functionality and not on the contents of the data an application is designed for.

Using a mouse is for beginners.

Then they graduate to keyboard commands.

Then they graduate to mouse stroke commands.

---

Every PC should have StrokeIt or one of the similar products.

PowerPro is not as flexible as StrokeIt but has one or two nice configurable mouse commands.

Built in mouse commands (like Opera) have to be careful because they can conflict with other mouse commands defined at a system wide level. Also Opera, which has done a good job of implementing mouse stroke commands is still nowhere as flexble as StrokeIt and fortunately you can disable the Opera mouse commands.

Then they wake up, drenched in sweat, recognizing it was all just a nightmare and the next morning they happily start AutoHotkey again, asking themselves how much dope they had last night. ;)

:) Hello !
Using a mouse is for beginners.

Then they graduate to keyboard commands.

Then they graduate to mouse stroke commands.
No, no, and no ! This is quite false !
• I'm not specially a beginner, and I use mainly the mouse and the button-bars intensively everyday.
- And I'm not the only !

- You can find here some professionals at computing using the mouse.
- Personally, I have indeed some (light but painful) handicaps that bore me a lot, and being rather normal except this, I have only two hands (damaged, though) and ten fingers… So, the mouse is better and faster for me, with Drag & Drop I don't use dialogues for each operation…

- If you think :  “I'm an expert since I use the keyboard”, you are completely wrong…

mouse and keyboard are different mediums for communication between OS and the user. Both are unreplacable in some fields. For instance, If you tell me how to browse Internet with keyboard I will be very happy...
Also, Clo already mention that some people have problems with hands.....

Try Opera, and you will be able to! :P
Though it's not easier than mouse even in this browser, but it's possible in principle: navigate through links, save/open/browse links and so on - Opera allows to do all this with keyboard.
