New feature request

Post by *nirmelamoud »

When I'm editing a file from within a zip / jar... file, I need to open the editor edit the file, close the editor - then total commander suggest to update the file (load it into the zip file)
this is a great feature and I used it a lot.

It will be nice, if I will not have to open the editor (let say it is already opened) or even close the editor (lets say I want to leave it opened)

It can be done, if for example TC will keep track on files that was opened for editing (as it is today) and that I will have a button / toolbar, etc that will do "refresh" - open a menu with all opened for editing files to choose which one to update.
of course once Iwill close the editor, it will clear the list.

Thanks.

I would support a similar idea!

TC doesn't check if the file is opened, because many editors (TextPad for example) do not keep the file open during editing, but open it on save and close it immediately. So TC checks the Editor process.
Another way could be to check the timestamp of the file to see if it was updated, and when switching back to TC it would ask to update the archive or reupload to the ftp server. This might impose a problem, when someone saves the file frequently and switches frequently back to TC (as I do), so maybe your idea is the best.
But it is definitely annoying, that i have to close the editor when i want to update.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

I also support the idea! Just recently I needed such feature very much, when editing some skin for the Opera browser: it has skins in ZIP archives, and closing the editor after every minor change to update the archive and see the changes is very annoying!
