Size display for Gigabyte files, dynamic option

Post by *rif »

For file sizes I use the configuration option "dynamic (x.x k/M/G)" to get a short easy to read file size. This works fine for files in the Kilobyte and Megabyte class, but for file sizes above 1 Gigabyte the size is never shown with G, it is still shown in Megabytes. Same for configuration option "Dynamic (x k/M/G)"

2979368 -> 2.8M correct
3405922101 -> 3,248.1M wrong! should be 3.2G

Is there somehow to fix this problem?

I do not know if it works correctly for files in the Terrabyte class - I have not yet tried it ;-).

That's by design. Showing the size only in GB would be to unprecise, according to the author.

Use the DirSizeCalc plugin and define a custom column, you can use GB values there, very customizable.

The only downside of this is that content plugins don't work in archives.
ghisler has obviously forgotten to implement this...

I do not think so...

The option is called "dynamic (x.x k/M/G)", but if it was by design there should be no G specified.

Also how would it be too unprecise? It would only apply for sizes in the Gigabyte range, anything below would be shown in M or K.

Additionally, In version 6.52 select Configuration -> Options... -> Layout -> Tabstops and click on the help button. On the help page it says:
"dynamic (x k/M/G) depeding on the file size, it is displayed in bytes, kbytes, MBytes or even GBytes".

This indeed looks like a bug and it would be nice when it is corrected in the software.
