yepp, I've tried the flatbuttons setting. And just not to sound stupid, I double checked again before posting.

It stopped working in some earlier version, I forget which and I had emailed Christian at the time who gave some explanation.

I did see it working intermittantly until I reinstalled windows when it fell back not to being flat.

Maybe I should do a fresh install of TC?

There are TWO, not one. Check the setting in the button bar config, not in the general TC menu.

What has ghisler answered? Where is the thread?

Reinstalling TC is unneeded, all you need to do is start TC with a fresh wincmd.ini, you can also start TC using command line:
totalcmd.exe /i=X:\path\to\wincmd.ini

Secret variable…

:) Hello !
- Just try to add in <wincmc.ini>

Code: Select all

[Configuration]
WantXpLook=0
- Then, the old styles (flat, "square" 3D) will come back like you wish…

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

Ah, great info. :)
Again a setting that is nowhere documented, not even in HISTORY.TXT.
Why is it still not in help file?

:) Hi Jeff !

- It's in the Tutorial, with some prudent piece of advice :
4, b, § <Totalcmd.inc> >> View (Table) >> Line "cm_visFlatdriveButtons=2904; …"
The comment and the warning below…

:mrgreen: Friendly,

Not in the German one, found it in the English one. :)

Anyway, I think you also agree that this information needs to be part of the official documentation.

What happens on TC versions <5.0? Will the TC implode?

:lol: It's almost what I replied to Ch. Ghisler! I said "Maybe the PC explodes ?" :D
- Certainly a crash, since there is no ... .exe.manifest file in older versions.
- Indeed, it might be in the Help.
- It's in the French Tutorial too.
- Sorry, I can't support the German Tutorial updates by myself. I need native German speakers to help me, and I've no longer one for now :(

I'm almost sure it cannot be done, but let me ask: can i please turn on XP look for the toolbar as well? I looks stupid, that my toolbar is old style, the drive bar is XP style.

I will link Clo's tutorial in the Wiki but as it is based on the original static help file the content is not suitable to be copy&pasted. Redundant information is not what a Wiki should be about. ;)

Added it here:

@Sir_SiLvA:
ghisler has already told you what to do to be able to write in the Wiki. If you don't care about the Wiki why do you make proposals?
