v6.53 - genuine?

Post by *DRP535 »

Is this new v6.53 that's appeared out all over the place today except on any official TC sites genuine? Is there a new bugfix release out very soon or is it just another fake/trojan attempt?

hm... it looks interesting. According to history file it should be bugfix release mentiond in this forum a few times, but only one official link (Techspot) points to this new version.
Also there is still no offical announcement... even there at least 2 bugfixes importnat for me, I think, I can wait one more day 8)

It's mostly just a tightening up of the copy-protection. The existing cracks that are out and about for it no longer work.

Patience my friends. There is always a tiny delay from code completion to host availability. The latter is not always Christian’s fault! ;)

For now, Techspot is the only site who has made it available yet, the other sites have been informed. Be warned that there is a small bug in the installer which causes any replaced versions of WCMZIP32.DLL (with encryption support) to be overwritten. I have already notified the sites, the new installer should be available soon.

Yes, and they already have the fixed installer! Simtel.net now also have it.

Hmm... I downloaded the updated version, but the installer problem does not seem to be fixed. The distribution file size remained absolutely the same - 1 648 632 bytes, but the files themselves are different:

MD5 of the old file:   0f37354847de342664d8bbb6d9955b6b
MD5 of the new file: 136566a9751b0474a3b241aaf92e28c4

When I unpack the both tcmdr653.exe versions, I get that all files inside these arhcives are the same, except the INSTALL.CAB. Then I unpacked the INSTALL.CAB and got that all files are the same!

I also tried to install the updated version - and it replaced my WCMZIP32.DLL, as the earlier versions.

2Flint

The difference between the two versions is that the timestamp of the WCMZIP32.DLL is not set to 00.00 (in stead the WCMICONS.DLL is set to 00.00)

When the timestamp is set to 00.00 the installer won't overwrite an already existing file with the same name.

So because the timestamp of the WCMZIP32.DLL no longer was 00.00 it would overwrite the existing WCMZIP32.DLL which is not something you would want if you have previously installed the encryption enabled version of WCMZIP32.DLL .

Because it is only the timestamp of two files that was mixed up, the installers will have the same size, and all the files will compare.
