vicons3 icon set update -> version 1.11

Post by *StickyNomad »

This collection contains completely redesigned icons for TCs default buttonbar (26 icons at this time, more to come), drivebar and file panel in 256 & 16 colors and 32x32 & 16x16 pixels.
See included readme for details.

Update 25/07/05, Version 1.11:
- added a light gray border to the dirUp-Icon for better
readability with dark backgrounds ( Hi pdavit :D )

Update 11/07/05, Version 1.1:
- completely redesigned all icons for the drivebar
- (re-)added icon for 'cm_List'
- some pixels changed

See Screenshot

Download vicons3_111.zip

My old collection vicons2 (version 1.1) is still available in this thread. It contains icons for over 70 TC-Commands wich I haven't updated to vicons3 yet, but will do so in a while...

drop me a line if you like, I'm interested in feedback :D

Wow, good job, I like them. - honestly, I am not using Icons for TC built-in functionality. Everythink I need, I can reach by keyborad, but those a few icons that I have still there from original set I replaced with these new from you - simply they looks much better 8)

This is coming close to perfection and almost makes me overrule the solution
of hiring a pro icon developer! ;)

Simplicity is a plus, the color usage has sky-high improved and the TC related functions
themes which was the strongest element of your icons is of course still there!

Keep up the good work. I hope that Christian, seeing the development stages, will verify
the genuine of your work and finally use them in the upcoming v7.0.

Well, you surely deserve it! And I have my fingers crossed for seeing the icons in a
future release of TC.

I don't know if any of the following features have already an assigned icon from
your old collection but the following list contains commands I frequently use and
should be nice to see icons assigned to them.

Here's the list:

- calculate dirs' size (Alt+Shift+Enter)
- turn on/off hidden files
- save selection
- restore selection
- save current position
- copy filenames with full path to clipboard
- copy filenames to clipboard
- split file
- combine file

Easier replacement

Post by *squeller »

Beautiful icons.

I have one suggestion: Could you use similar filenames and icon positions in any new version? If you haven't finished an icon, use a placeholder icon.

Users then simply have to replace your icon files. Would make things easier!

2pdavit
thanks for your suggestion, I'll add them to my list.

Thanks, I will consider it. But I don't know if I want to stuff the ICL with placeholders for all imaginable TC commands. Maybe I'll append new icons after the old ones, this should work, too IMHO.

I have proposed ghisler to create an ICL template with placeholders for all commands in the icon thread. The advantages would be huge!
You would not need to adjust any paths in buttons anymore when you wanna change the look, you just replace the ICL and you are done.

Unfortunately there was, like so often, no reaction...

TC definetely needs more standards. I suggest that the icons are ordered according to the internal command number and as you are the only one who is actively creating an ICL for the masses you can be the pioneer to implement that standard. :)

The internal numbering would be called the "StickyNomad-Index" from now on, what do you think? ;)

I fully agree.

thats a good idea. I'll keep that in mind for the next release (wich is in progress and will continain completely redesigned drivebar icons due to copyright issues with the recently used ones wich are taken from XPs DLLs)

Hm, 'indexing follows the SNI conventions...' sounds good to me

I would like to try your new icons. When opened the zip file, I don't see setup file but see two ic1 files plus a dll file. Where should I place these three files, under System32 folder? Please be patient to average guys. Cobras

Did your read the Reame.txt your self? It only described how to change icons:
"to change the buttonbar icons, select 'configuration'->'buttonbar'". It did not say where those three files should be copied onto. Cobras
