We have all the time in the world before the release of v7.0!
Well, I'm sure things will take a while, but one day...

IMHO ver 7.0 would be a nice release nr to push up TCs appearance a little bit (with or without my icons) and to spend him some of the often discussed GUI changes/default settings adjustments

:D :D

btw, does anybody know of an existing 'SN-indexed' TC commands list? I could sort tc's INC file manually by tc command Nr, but I'd rather not invent the wheel once again if someone did already. I'm sure theres a GREP crack out there who could do this in a few seconds...

Thanks!

thanks, I already tried that, but I didn't find an option to export the sorted list to a textfile for autorenaming the icons. but maybe I missed sth...

I like the idea of having having a sorted ICL containing all commands with placeholders for not-yet-made icons (sorted by command-nr.) as some of you suggested here, as this would simplify updating to a new library version.
(btw: Thanks Sheepdog for sending me the command list! :D )

But I tested around a bit and I'm not quite sure if this would be an optimal solution, because:

- as there are 376 commands at the moment, this ICL would have a minimum of about 500Kb size (ca. 1K/icon for placeholder icons and even 5K for actual used icons). So a size of 1 MB and more is imaginable, it may even exceed TCs program size and that qould be kinda weird IMHO. And maybe it even could affect TCs performance on slow machines...

Maybe thers's a way to add 'empty' icons to the ICL to limit file size, but AFAIK every placeholder has to contain at least one icon that occupies 1Kb space.

- Another thing is that excessive scrolling would be necessary when changing icons. OK, you won't change them very often, but this would be an annoyance, though.

So I'm not sure how to proceed with further versions, if anyone has another idea, please let me know.

StickyNomad: don't care about the size!
we love your Icons and if someone dislikes the placesholders he can easily delete theme
(with a tc-plugin)...

B & W is smaller !

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello !
… (ca. 1K/icon for placeholder icons…
- You could simply use B & W 32*32 icons, each is 326 bytes only… like you can see here (please, save it on your HD, this server doesn't display *.ico sometimes)
- It could be enough just to keep the order in the ICL …

 Kind regards,
Claude

Optimized the empty icon, it's only 70 bytes now.
Example ICL is here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/3063709/test2_vicons3_buttonbar.zip.html

Edit:
Oops, I have overwritten my old posting, sorry.
The example above contains vicons3 plus 10 empty icons. As you can see it is only about 1kb bigger, so each empty icon raises file size only 100 bytes. I have created the icon with IrfanView and modified the ICL with ICLView plugin.

The scrolling is not neccesary if you know which number an icon has. To assign the 5th icon you have to write "%path_to_icon%\StickyNomad.icl,4" as the count begins with zero. And after all with a plugin like ICLread you can always get the number of a certain icon. So it is only a question of a good hint in the readme, I think.

 thanks, pals! Thats what I call comprehensive service!
I didn't realize the 1pix trick ;) nice thing!

Well, I think the creating an SN-indexed ICL may commence, but that'll be a boring copying & typing mayhem, so be patient...

Hm, but maybe theres a way to automate this somehow and create some kind of knit-o-matic in wich the sorted textfile with the commands can be inserted and magically an ICL with blank icons named according to the textlines will appear...

Maybe I'll spend a thought or two about that. Or maybe someone else knows a decent and time-sparing way to achieve this...

@SN: how about this way:
you need a dir were you put the empty icon 376 times
(the names dont care)

than you grab a renametool like Oscar Renamer
start it, enter this dir and copy in the text-edit-filenames-field
the list from Sheepdog and press ok.

now you have 376 empty Icons with the right names - now you replace the ones you allready have done

and at last you use tc and the icl-packer-plugin and make an icl out of the files.

Just made a (very) little update to my icons. Check first post.

The next 'major' release with further color adjustment, finetuning and additional icons is under construction, so stay tuned, but don't count seconds...

I also plan to release the next ICL containing placeholder icons for all TC commands I didn't create an icon for yet, so updating to a new ICL version will be possible without any hassle for quite a while.
