Useful 3rd party tools to complement TC

- Scite has column mode (just select with ALT pressed).
- Functions list: I didn't find PHP functions under UE. In scite, I have Functions + parameters
- If Scite don't have Hex View/Edit, you can still edit binary files (its binary view is incredible)

But what I really appreciate is that each function is very well thought.
For instance, in PHP, if you specify a variable in a string between quotes, the variable is correctly highlighted.

The highlighting in SciTE is very good, indeed, yes. I've tried several editors, and at least when it comes to php, SciTE is the one that does this best, though UE was a good second.

dunno about other languages, but I suppose SciTE does them just as good.

... oh, and it's still a free editor ;p

Well, since this thread is becoming a SciTE subject… does anyone know if there is a spelling add-on or something for SciTE? That’s initially for English.

What do you mean? I opened binary file in SciTE and that looked ugly, not usable at all...

C/C++, HTML, JavaScript are nice as well. Tested.

Haven't heard about that. Try stand alone tools.

What do you mean? I opened binary file in SciTE and that looked ugly, not usable at all...

SciTE replaces each 'non viewable' char by a little tag.
Like that, it is possible to open a binary file, change some of the text inside it (without changing the number of chars) and save it : it will continue work.

How so? I think Crimson Editor is good, but SciTE is far more flexible, IMO. I think SciTE suffers from some of the same things as TC, mainly a bit crippled first view of it, the features aren't apparent until you really read the docs and check things out.

but, of course, if you've done all that, then by all means, I'm not the one to decide which editor to use

I haven't used Phoenix, but people in FB forum are say that FB (v. 0.6) is faster and more stable. Maybe you should try this new version...
