cm_OpenDesktop in XP question

Post by *Cliocane »

When I configure my button bar to access my desktop thus:
cd c:\documents and settings\username\desktop
I get a slightly different results than when I use tc's internal command:
cm_OpenDesktop
Specifically, using cm_OpenDesktop, I've noticed that the name of zip-files appears in brackets, e.g. [timerc.zip] with no extension, rather than "timerc" with a zip extension (the result with the cd command), and as a result the file doesn't open for examination and unpacking.
Does anybody understood why this is or how it would be changed? There's an obvious workaround (use the cd ... command), so I ask this question simply out of curiosity.
I should mention that I run Geoshell as my shell.

I don't use Geoshell but it's true. There is a difference and...I think cm_OpenDesktop is the proper one.
It shows not only "My desktop" folder but also "All users" desktop, Recycle bin, My network, My computer, My documents (the last three aren't shown at my desktop, in fact, but as I remember they could be - there is a parameter for it).
So I think TC shows full desktop, cause Windows shows at the desktop not only the contents of the single folder but also some additional items.

Why zip files are shown this way? Probably cause windows CAN (at last) use zip files itself and it shows them like folders :-)

Thanks for the feedback, since now I know Geoshell is not the issue. You're right about the difference in what the commands show, though one can compensate by adding shortcuts in the username desktop directory; I'll look for how to set parameter you mention.

Still find it peculiar that these files can't be opened in the all users desktop from within TC, though I understand your explanation.

cm_OpenDesktop opens the virtual simulated folder as shown in Explorer. This is usually a mix from several different directories (e.g. "All users" and "your name").

Is there a way to access archive files as usual (I mean as directories) using cm_OpenDesktop?

There isn't, because I can only use Explorer functions (IShellFolder interface) on the virtual desktop...
