Information & Request: Foxit PDF Reader -> Lister Plu

Post by *Sine Culpa »

Hi,

I would like to draw your attention to a very fine PDF reader:
Foxit PDF Reader is small (the download size less than 1MB), so you can download it quickly. It doesn't need any lengthy installation, so you can start to run it as soon as you can download it.

And it starts up immediately, so you don't need to wait the annoying "Welcome" screen to disappear.

Foxit PDF Reader is extreamly easy to use, just double click it to start and then click open button to open your PDF document. If you want to print, click on "Print" button. If you want to setup the page layout for printing, select "Print Setup" from "File" menu.

Foxit PDF Reader is provided by Foxit Software Company for free non-commercial use. This product is provided AS IS without any explicit or implicit warranty. Please see the End User License Agreement.

This program is a real stunner, at least to me. Starts from an USB-stick, lean, fast and comfortable. I really enjoy to view my PDFs in an instant, without waiting for allmighty Acrobat to run.

Now to the request ... ;)

Is there anybody out there, capable and willing to write a Lister plugin for Foxit PDF Reader? Also the issue of the IE-viewer plugin, until now handling PDFs for me via IE and Acrobat, should be solved?

I would be excited if one of you could come forward with a proper solution.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Can Foxit be used as a PDF viewer within Internet Explorer, just like Adobe Reader? If yes, then you can use it via ieview too. If not, then there is probably no chance to use it inside of lister - except, of course, if it provides its own (OLE2 or so) interface, which is quite unlikely.

Hello, I am a VERY old TC user, new for this forum.
Do you have ChoiceEditor plugin? With this plugin you can edit particular files assigning them to a particular program. I tried to assign to *.PDF files the Foxit PDF Reader, so now I am able to view PDF with Foxit just selecting them and press F4.

Hope it helps.

Hi to all!

(Christian) Yes, PDF Reader works well with browsers and therefore also with ieview.
(ARenna) I regard your method as the best one. With Choice Editor the user can always decide if he/she wants to open the pdf file with Acrobat Reader (by hitting Enter) or with the Foxit Reader (by hitting F4). Thats very convenient!

We still have Alt-F3, designed specifically for this purpose...

It opens .pdf files very quickly, however, it has no search functionality - a major drawback!

Works here as usual. The TC update cannot be the reason.
Try pressing "Esc" together with F4 (hold "Esc" then F4). Then the CoiceEditor menu should pop up. Right click on the Foxit entry and check if the Foxit path is correct.

My foxit path is correct.

It does work wit ChoiceEditor selecting a single file.
It does not work with Lst2mlt or Lst2str (in combination with ChoiceEditor) selecting more pdf files.

Well you did not say this. I'm not shure there is help for you. I have not used lst2mlt for a long time.
How do you try that? With F4 you call ChoiceEditor and from ChoiceEditor you call lst2mlt and from lst2mlt you call Foxit? I'm afraid it's too complicated (for me).

With Lst2str you call ChoiceEditor and pass all selected files to the editor.
ChoiceEditor opens every single file with the associated editor.
This works fine for .txt, .doc, .xls, .bat files but not for .gif, .jpg files (using Irfanview) and .pdf files (using FoxitReader).

Foxit reader is a very nice and efficient alternative for pdf-reading.

2 ARenna
The ChoiceEditor plugin is indeed a nice tool. and it would be a way to show the pdf-file.
But I think there is a difference between reading and editing. F3 or F4.
ChoiceEditor is an expansion of the F4-function, not of F3.
If you really did associate *.pdf files with Foxit, F4 won't be necessary, 'enter' will do.
Apart from this, in TC there's always the R-click menu option of "Open file with", which custom list can be saved.

Making a plugin for a function only makes sense, if it, at least, decreases 2 clicks to 1.

F3 or F4 is philosophical issue, really no difference here. The only difference would be if author can create REAL TC plugin... somebody should contact them.

You are using old version. The major problem is text select since it doesn't work like in Acrobat Reader.

You mean the author of ChoiceEditor?

Would be nice but it seems he has perish the source code.

Fox PDF reader cannot open more then 1 file at once with the F4 key.
The only solution is imho to create a batch file and send every single PDF to single pdf reader:
foxitreader.exe 1.pdf
foxitreader.exe 2.pdf
etc.
and not foxitreader.exe 1.pdf 2.pdf
