feature request-active side inactive side

Just a thought, I would love to have th ability to have different background colors in the active and inactive sides... rather than the slight shift in the bar at the top I would like to have the entire background be ACTIVE white with black text and the inactive black with silver for example.

Nice idea... there's been many times that I didn't pay attention to which side was active. In some cases I've deleted things that I shouldn't have.

I just hate deleting stuff because I was not paying attention to which side I was on at the moment, and since I don't use my recycle bin......YUK!

i'm sure almost anything would be good to include but at the end tc will become a 300MB large executable

so i never deleted anything i didn't want and i don't use recycle bin. i can see which side is active but i think it would be a small code to the software with the ability to switch on/off or just set the colour of each sides.

it's so minimal i use only keyboard.

and there could be a lot of features to include (for me the ability to hide/show Menubar lol - i would win ~20 pixels - lol )

Try
1. An empty .mnu file
2. Remove all the user created menu entries in the wincmd.ini file (i.e remove [user] section)
3. RestrictInterface=1 In the wincmd.ini file

i have to select the empty .mnu file in the configuration..

Whilst the idea has merit, why not make it configurable i.e. if you want it - enable it.

I have no problems in telling which side is active. I only have to glance to the titlebar of the pane to see which is currently active.

Whilst lots of knick knacks are nice, as long as TC doesn't suffer from excessive bloat and slowdown as a result, no worries. One of it's strengths (IMO) is it's configurability.

You're game! I don't trust myself. I keep my recycle bin active and use shift-F8 for permanent deletions. The recycle bin get's a regular clean out!

Wow! This is a minimal setup. Mine's a little more obese than that

I have had similar requests in the past:
different background color
- by type of directory (normal dir, ftp, plugin etc)
- by side (as you suggested)
- by file type (line by line)
- or even a background image

Since most of these would be incompatible, I haven't implemented any of them yet.

I am not sure how they would be incompatable, but my main point here is being able to see without a doubt wich side is active/inactive. and now that you are adding tabs to the grand scheme, I think it would be even better to have this option extended to each tab type ie.. FTP, Local dir, network drive etc.. having its own color, but mostly being able to better see the active side is the focus of this request. By the way, I think you are definatly doing a great job with "total commander" and ever since I found it many years ago, I have installed many programs on many computer throughout the years, but somehow no matter what else goes into the computer "windows Commander/Total commander" always goes in first.
