[REQ] FS-plugin for VMware virtual machine disk format

Post by *fredvej »

VMware has released specifications for the virtual machine disk format, can be requested at http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/vmdk.html .

This poses a challenge to you plugin-wizzards. It's not really a filesystem, it's a container format that can hold partitions with different file systems, e.g. FAT, NTFS, ext2 and so on.

Wouldn't it be cool if VMware disks could be accessed from our beloved Total Commander (read only), so you don't have to start VMware and boot the VM-machine and copy files to the VM host drive ?

Not exactly a FS-plugin but it's already possible to mount VMware images with the Workstation Disk Mount tool.

Thanks a lot for the tip, I've totally overlooked that when browsing th VMware home page

If only it would mount other filesystems than NTFS and FAT , but it's still better than nothing.
