[OT] Replacing Start|Run
Hey everybody,
i'm a great fan of TAR, but it's not often updated and the site's been down for a while now.
I've been looking out for other programs that work like this.
After a while i found that quicksilver for mac is what i want, but i haven't found it for windows yet.
What i did find:
Dave's Quick Search Taskbar
SlickRun
Launchy
Not free:
AppRocket
ActiveWords
Any tips? TIA!

AutoHotkey can solve all your needs, so it doesn't make much sense to use something else meanwhile.
Anyway, you can also use TC to start your apps. Define machine wide aliases here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
or user dependant ones here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
Or just drop links to your favourite apps in a directory that is covered by your %path% variable.
You can also check those links, all console related:

In case you miss the latest TAR version, you can find it in my file store.

Woo, sorry..
I'm not here very often.
I'm an AutoIt user, there seems to be some religious thing with AutoIt and AutoHotKey. So, i'm not going there.
TAR will do it for now, thanks for your other ideas, Colibri looks promising but it's not there yet. For what i hear somebody should try to make a 'quicksilver for windows'.
Downloaded the last TAR version from your file-store.
So, thanks!

I'd not call it religios but ridiculous, honestly. Whenever I search for "AHK" in AutoIt forum I get remembered of the inquisition and burning witches.I'm an AutoIt user, there seems to be some religious thing with AutoIt and AutoHotKey. So, i'm not going there.

Well, I am no witch and still prefer AHK over AutoIt for a reason:
It has with no doubt the much more effective hotkey handling and functionality which makes scripts tiny and fast.

I mean for example that decent discussions about pros and cons between AHK and AutoIt are simply not possible in that forum, because every thread in which people try to inform are closed with a negative side comment about AHK. In AHK forum it's no problem at all, this is the difference between an "open-minded" forum and a forum consisting of snobby developers. AutoIt is like eDonkey, AHK is like eMule, if you know what I mean.
Check this posting from an AutoIt developer as an example. Of course the thread was closed.

Or this one, user cmallett is Chris from AHK, Jon is the main AutoIt developer. Thread is also closed, no chance for a reply from Chris, just lame..., especially the "edit" note...:
http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?s=0ddd7e5638811bff37d9c4398c6618ac&showtopic=841&hl=AutoHotKey
To me it looks like that:
Chris was disappointed that Jon hasn't accepted his many proposals to make AutoIt better (like hotkey and hooking functionality) and has chosen to do it on his own therefore, cool decision if you ask me.
Read statement from Chris here:
http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=20168#20168
and the link mentioned by SanskritFritz, Jon is exploding there, watch Chris' reaction on the other hand:
http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=746
What about GPL? Well, AHK adheres to GPL, AutoIt violates it as sources are hidden now, only accessible to the core developers, probably only equipped with much vaseline. But, nevertheless it's not Jon who is accused of violating GPL but it's Chris being accused of having "stolen" the Open Source Code of AutoIt2 to develop something better, just ridiculous.
