Unpacking zip file uncorrectly copies all files to same dir

Post by *Klauskvik »

Hi

On a Win2K machine with WC 5.50 I've have this problem when I unpack a zipfile which contains subdirectories. I use the internal WC unzipper and it will unpack all the files to the same the "root" directory effectively overwriting files of same name. It will however create the subdir names - but just won't drop anything into them....

Anyone got the same problem - and perhaps a fix to it?

Cheers

Hi,
first of all: use the new Version of TC (5.51),
Second: when the "unpack files"-dialogue appears - is the box "unpack path names if stored with files" checked??

Greetings,
Cheer up, Karl

Strange. It works fine in my PC (Win2K SP4).

Is your O/S an English version?

Try renaming wincmd.ini to something else so that TC will create a default ini, then try to unpack the file and see what happens. If you still have the same problem, perhaps it's O/S related or actually a bug in TC. If problem solved, there must be a hidden setting somewhere...

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

This really sounds like "unpack path names if stored with files" is not checked - I have several similar reports, and it was ALWAYS this option. If you are really 100% sure that it isn't, please send me a small (max 200k) zip file for testing, it may be some compatibility problem. Some zip packers really create strange zip files...

Unpacking zip files - Solved

Post by *Klauskvik »

Hi there

God, I'm embarrassed :-(

Ofcourse the checkbox "unpack path names if stored with files" was NOT checked. I simply did not notice it - have been using TC for 10 years or so (beginning with Norton Commander) and have never noticed this checkbox. But when will you ever need this box. I guess you could get all files from a path by packing it to a zip-file and then unpacking it whit the option unchecked

Thankyou very much - this small annoyance has troubled me for months :-)

Cheers

Klaus
