Regardless of the fact that I hardly use tabs, I guess it's a good idea - direct access is much convenient than cyclic one by ^Tab. BTW how you suppose to access tab #11 this way? %)

Well, I use ^Digit shortcuts for other purposes so I don't want them to be tabs accelerators by default. BTW I guess Grey digits could be a good solution for this, even w/o Ctrl.[/face]

The grey digits are ok, but not without the Ctrl. I use these often, so changed behaviour wouldn't be ok.
btw, on my keyboard these keys are just as white as the other keys

This is just a general idea, nothing else.

Well, same here but you know, they are just Grey :).[/face]

Grey key are Gray even if you we see it ;) Even if all keys are black. Or maybe more appropriate would be "NumPad Digits"?
It would be nice if there was at least an option to assing keys to Tabs.
BTW talking about tab #11 - There may be Ctrl+Shift+1 or no shortcut since some people may consider 9 tabs enought to be accessible quickly :) .

:) Hello Chris !
• I agree. Actually, the keyboard are in a lot of colours. Newbies don't understand that "Grey" means !
* I use this in the translations, i.e. : 1Num. for short in the menus or so…

I'm considering custom commands cm_switchtotab1 to cm_switchtotab10, so users can assign these keys themselves. I don't want to reserve 10 hotkeys for a single feature. What do you think?

great - thanks in advance!

as i said before, i think it makes much sense to assign the mentioned shortcuts by default. that's what most people expect them to do (because of firebird, MyIE, etc), they are currently unassigned by default, they would have to be assigned to the proposed shortcuts manually by most people, and, if anyone doesn't like this / uses it for other purposes, they can still be reassigned.

maybe a poll could clarify this? should i set one up? can i? where? ;)

if you don't want to "reserve" 10 hotkeys, maybe 5 (Ctrl-1 - Ctrl-5) are sufficient? or even 3 only? i hardly work w/ more than 3 tabs ...

On the other hand - when working with only 3 tabs - using Ctrl + Tab is not that annoying.
I support assignment by defaut - from Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+5, let's say.
But maybe we should wait and think if Ctrl+Num could be used for some better purpose.
Personally, I vote for default asssignmet for Ctrl+1 - Ctrl+5, but I will not insist. If I can do manually, it is enough for me.

What about one new command cm_switchtotab with a single parameter: The index of the desired tab. If no parameter has been given the (long awaited feature) opera-style tab will be displayed...

Here is a little suggestion on how the tab menu could look in Total Commander.

Of course the tab menu should be shown on cm_SwitchToNextTab and cm_SwitchToPreviousTab too.

Yes! Opera rules! I vote for Lefteous suggestion. Better software engineering contents! ;)

I also like this solution (there is similar in MyIE2).

I think it is smart to *not* assign too many shortcuts by default, unless they seem to be really necessary in daily use. Because if you need to change default shortcuts in future versions, you will disrupt your current users.
