Another Event Log plugin

Bug:

If you want to apply a filter and there are "No records found matching your criteria" - when you click OK and then one of the column headers (Time, Source, etc) you get: "Application Error": "Exception EAccessViolation in module TOTALCMD.EXE....." and TC crashes

BTW: IMO it would be nice if when there are no records for the filter the program showed the filter configuration again to correct it.

After several attempts I figured out that the problem occurs when I specify some Event Type in filter. Import works fine because it leaves this field empty.

One more problem: When I call out the Filter dialog, press Alt+Tab to other app, Alt+Tab back to Lister - the dialog doesn't get focus. After this, Lister disappears from the Alt+Tab list at all, so the only way to focus the dialog is click on Lister button in task bar and then click on dialog (two clicks!!! incredible!

).

Version tested: EventLog.wlx 1.7.

Thanks for new version. The bug was really removed

There is still one thing I don't like.
When I press column header to sort the log, the current record is no longer active - another record becomes active

Changes are:
- Added Event ID column
- Added custom column order
- Removed error message on unknown clipboard formatting token
- Fixed bug loosing selection after sorting
- Fixed minor bug with clipboard formatting

I get an error when I try to view the system log:

Check please if you able to copy System event log from FS-plugin to disk and view file System.evt with lister plugin? If problem with lister plugin, can you send your event log to me?

Yes, of course. It is now in a testing phase and i hope the first version will be released in a one or two weeks.

PS. You can send .evt file to address mentioned in the readme file

Hi,

i use you wonderful

plugin (lister), but i saw some weird behaviour:

In some eventlogs, some rows spawn complete screens. See
http://www.hortien.com/Bild1.jpg for an example. I opened the normal
eventvwr with the same entry for comparison.

In some events, some of the description is missing. I haven't tested
this in detail, but some descriptions are very short and doesn't include
the complete description, which i can see in NT event viewer.

1. There nothing "weird" in you example.

The description in the Microsoft event viewer contains two parts: Text about missing description and untranslated description placeholder.
Untranslated placeholder may contain several strings. When NT event viewer cannot find description it puts all string together using semicolon as delimiter. I don't like this behavior, therefore my plugin starts each string from new line(as it should be when description found).
Only problem with very long descriptions is impossibility to see whole text in the window. To see whole description, you have to copy text to clipboard and paste it in the some text editor.

2. If the event description for some events is missing, please, send me .evt file with these events and i'll check it.

Thanks for the explanation. As i have this kind of event very often, could you please implement a option to change this behaviour. Replacing the semicolons with whitespace instead of newlines, maybe ? I will include you in my evening prayer for this

.

EventLog 2.0 is available.

- Added support for autoinstall feature for TC 6.5

FS-plugin
- Added info to the properties dialog (sources, number of records, time scope, guest access)
- Added displaying of properties dialog on Enter key

LS-Plugin
- Added Event ID in filter dialog
- Added custom separator for empty strings
- Changed internal buffer size due to bug in Windows XP SP2.
- Added progress loading info in the window caption while waiting for filter dialog.
- Added ability to abort waiting by ESC key.
