Ok, this is not a solution very simple, but...how can I do that?
:) Hi!
:( Isn't really very easy... Do you want for know the process :?:
It's simpler if you have 2 PCs...
You need a program able to edit / modify the icons libraries...
:?: More?

I don't know a solution, but one thing I know for sure: There is a registry setting (it's not set by default) that controls the standard folder icon that explorer displays -> Editing the shell32.dll is completely useless.

:?: What does the register key (if there is one?) contain?
Maybe the order-number of the original icon in the library?
* So, if that icon is physically changed (same size, same N°), why that could'nt work?
8) It's just a question, of course!
:) Glad to learn something at this...

The key contains a path to an icon, a library, or an icon library including icon index inside the library. There are settings for open and closed folder.
Microangelo OnDisplay is a tool to set this settings.

If you want to customize the look of the entire windows system, the shell32.dll is the right place.
And it isn´t very complicated. If you don´t want it, you can change some system icons with an application like Microangelo or TuneUp Utilities with a simple mouse click.

There is a hierarchy:
1. Look for the reg key if found draw the folder icon using the found icon
2. Otherwise take the icon from shell32.dll

So why should I change the Shell32 lib? I can change the lib and then change the reg key -> my changes to the library will be ignored. :!:

Here is mine.
Generally I hide toolbar, button bar, commandline and function bar to maximize the panel space. Even want to hide main menu if it's possiable. Shortcut keys are all enough for me.

Lefteous,
why should I change every single reg key for folders, drives and files? With the shell32.dll I can do it in 2 minutes. Maybe you change the registry, I prefer to replace the DLL.

2Lefteous I use WindowBlinds - The theme is Pix OS www.pixtudio.com

The icons and colours I'm still fooling around with, most of the icons are from different icon packs.

I would like to see this option make it into TotalCmd "Do not retrieve the windows shell icon if directory has system or hidden attribute set".
Along with the option "Do not use excamation mark icon on files that has system or hidden attribute set".
Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.
