It's not imagine, but for IrfanView, there is already a test version with JPG-XL support.

I know that iview462 version can read JXL via additional iview462_plugins pack.
Will Imagine.wlx work with the "iview462_plugins\Jpeg_XL.dll" ? I don't think it ever could.

Any reason to laugh? Absolutely lossless transformation to both sides and up to 30% better data compression.

Is there not?

I use "jxl-x64-windows-static" (both cjxl.exe and djxl.exe) and losslessly transform JPG>JXL>JPG. Both JPGs are absolutely identical.

A new version 1.1.6 of Imagine dated 11th of August 2023 is available at https://www.nyam.pe.kr/dev/imagine/

Notice - the label on the page still says Aug 08 2023, but the files inside the archives are new and dated Aug118 2023

I continue to despair over the addons system for TC, but for the moment, could someone please explain what I can do with - no, explain HOW I can use - Imagine?
Further, what is the difference between the imagine.zip, wlx_imagine.zip and, indeed, imagine.exe itself files?

I've used TC for a while now, but I can't think of anywhere other than in this post as to where I can find information on usage for this plug.. err, addon. Plugin?
#2 Could someone help, please? Where I should think to look for information and/or view the information itself.

#3 Plus, the same quandary exists with respect to mmedia and mmfactory - information beyond their existence - a HOW TO USE section - and whether imagine and mmedia would clash or not.

#4 When installing imagine, how on Earth would I know what is meant by (other than the base meaning) "Some dll files may be missing on your system"?

Just BTW, one other example of the parlous state of addons, imo, is that after some hours working with the newly proffered wdx_exif28b1 addon, I found that I needed the PlugMan program to edit an otherwise uneditable string in the configuration file, adding | "HEIC" or the like to see the Exif data within Apple's new files. Nowhere is there a "how to use" that I can find. Imagine if apps were like this. But that's for somewhere else.

TC supports 4 types of plugins:
Packer - WCX extension - since 1999 - version 4.00
Lister - WLX extension - since 2002 - version 5.50
File system - WFX extension - since 2002 - version 5.50
Content - WDX extension - since 2004 - version 6.50

Lister plugins are used for Lister viewer (F3) and QuickView (Ctrl+Q), optionally for thumbnails.
Imagine started in 2003 as Lister plugin for Animations and Images with name "FLIC", and IIRC distibuted as single file FLIC.WCX.
Now it is also standalone application and packer plugin.
Actually real engines are Imagine.dll and Imagine64.dll while:
Imagine.exe and Imagine64.exe are wrappers for aplication,
Imagine.wlx and Imagine.wlx64 for Lister plugin
Imagine.wcx and Imagine.wcx64 for packer plugin
Yes, you can install Imagine as a packer plugin and open e.g. BMP or GIF files as archives.
(wlx_imagine.zip from ghisler plugins page is just renamed imagine.zip from plugin autor)

#3 You are probably confused by plugins names but mmedia and mmfactory are for something else although both works with media files.
In general you can install as many plugins as you wish - you can even install many versions of the same plugin with some
restricions - for Packer plugins you must use different extensions for plugins supporting same formats or various versions of the same plugin. For Lister plugins - you can switch to another plugin by type "4" while view file (or define view by file type or select from Lister menu). For File system plugins manually change displayed name, for Content plugins - change name of WDX file.

#4 How on Earth we would know which DLL files are missing on YOUR system?
I've never seen such a message. Just guess - try install Visual C++ Redistributable.

On "BTW" - if you mean | EXT="HEIC" at the end of detect string it's perfecty editable,
but it seems you just don't even read README.TXT for this plugin - correct way to add support for these files is uninstall old version of plugin and install new version.
20230102 Added: Support for HEIC images: .HEIC extension (to use, remove the plugin via Configuration - Options - Plugins - Content Plugins, then install it again)
P.S. all these are PLUGINS, NOT ADDONS
For more info about plugins open TC Wiki - e.g. https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Plugin

Hi,
I updated to 1.1.7 and suddenly Imagine tries (and fails) to play mp4 videos? Any ideas what happened and how to fix it, please?

Code: Select all

2=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\Lister\Imagine\Imagine.wlx
2_detect="MULTIMEDIA"
TIA

Confirmed with TC 64-bit.
Works fine with TC 32-bit (Imagine not used even if selected via plugin menu)
