Plugin for Archicad files

Post by *jvackar »

Hi, I'd like to know, if there is any plugin to view Graphisoft ArchiCAD files (extensions like pln, pla, gsm, ism, gdl) in TC or in Windows's windows or only their thumbnails (like bmp or jpg). I don't know how, what was wrong or not, but TC and even windows explorer showed me thumbnails of these files 2 times!! about 1year ago. So I think it's possible with some plugin, but I don't know which it is.I've just tasted a lot of TC plugins). Maybe it depends on Windows setting or dll libraries and than some TC plugin shows it.

Or could be possible to make plugin, which do that, somehow? Graphisoft distribute their program to view their files in their GDL Explorer (http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/object_technology/downloads/), but there I can only view nor to move files.

Thank you for any ideas,.. JVackar

Sorry for my english:-)

I do not believe that Windows Explorer displayed these ArchiCAD files. Maybe you exported some image files and viewed these files in Explorer and TC.

As far as I know no viewer plugin has been published yet. Sorry!
TC plugins: Autodesk 3ds Max / Inventor / Revit Preview, FileInDir, ImageMetaData (JPG Comment/EXIF/IPTC/XMP), MATLAB MAT-file Viewer, Mover, SetFolderDate, Solid Edge Preview, Zip2Zero and more

I'm sure, that I could see that, because I have proof! I have just collected more than 50000 Archicad objects and textures. They were and still are unsorted. As I've written, I can see them (I mean gsm! files, not pln,pla,..), so I sort about 10000 object to my directories. If I was wrong, how could I do that? Gsm files contain thumbnails, maybe I could somehow see them.

I guess that they install a so called shell extension which provides system-wide thumbnail generation for these file-types.
To use it in TC you have activate the "Explorer method" in thumbnail configuration.
A program to check for installed shell extensions is http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

I wrote a plug-in a while ago which does the same but I didn't develop it to a usable state because of the internal support in TC.
