Sort mode based on path

Post by *cray »

Is it possible to have different directory sorting modes in different directories? Normally sorting by name is preferred, but in some cases, like in "incoming" directories, sorting by time is more useful. Basically what i want to do is being able to specify:
Sort all files/directories based on name UNLESS in "path/directory"where i want to use sorting based on time. Ideas, reflections?

No. However, it was already suggested. I don't think Christian commented it.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Such a feature would be really cool! I would also need it!
(Because I also have such an incoming directory)

I think that the sorting order for such a folder should "overlay" the currently selected sorting order so that when one leaves that special folder it returns to the previous sorting order unless another sorting order was selected manually.

Send email to Christian, feature requests are to be done via email only.
After all, computers crash, people die, relationships fall apart. The best we can do is breath and reboot.

Not really! This forum proves the opposite or to be more accurate the forum is an additional means of suggesting future feature requests with a positive outcome from Christian appart from emails.

Here’s a list of up-coming features of v6.0 of TC made directly from this forum:

- Regular Expressions
- Natural Sorting
- Tabbed Panels

Nice idea! Would you like this to be saved permanently though or as long as TC is active? Maybe both by configuration?

I fully agree! I don't undestand why he is still providing support via email.

I did so several months ago.

He said he would put it on the list

I think the best way of implementing this would be to have a section in the configuration where one can setup "exceptions" to override the normal sort mode (stored permanent). For instance something like:
c:\download -> use sorting based on time
c:\mp3 -> use natural sorting
might be useful for the "average" user.

What a nifty idea! :D

As I imagine this would only apply to certain directories, I suggest your preference is stored in a file in that directory much like the descript.ion file for file comments. If this file is present, then obey it's instructions, otherwise use the default.

Why not? Not everyone who uses TC would look in or be aware of this forum. I wasn't aware of it's existance until today :D

True...I also know many users who don't realize of the fact the forum exists (to be honest - probably none of them does).
But I also think that forum is better place for support than email - more people can get some knowledge from it.

I've spent the best part of this afternoon sifting through the forum. Picked up some nifty tips, and am looking forward to 6.0 when it comes out :D

One thing though - with all the talk of 6.0's impending release, there is talk of it being released during Autumn, Summer etc... Just bear in mind there are some of us who live south of the equator and it's actually winter as we type 8) Actual dates would be more helpful

The tabs will offer a solution for this problem: They will remember their sort order and display mode. So you can create a tab for that directory and set the sort order accordingly.

Christian,
Mmm, IMHO tabs are for temporary use - eg copying files from one dir to 5 separate dirs. Mixing them up with other tabs that contain our favorite sorting order for let's say another 5 dirs isn't practical (also what if you decide you want them in the other panel?). It would be great if it also would be possible without the tabs.

Thanks

I share Roman's opinion. It would be nice if it would be possible without the tabs, too.
