"Explorerforcopy" - possibility of greater flexibi

Post by *pastone »

A suggestion relating to the Explorerforcopy setting in the .ini file.

Usefully I prefer TC's own copy/move operation. But with a USB external driver or a CDRW drive it is more reliable to switch on the Explorerforcopy setting.

Would it be possible (in the next release, perhaps) to allow switching on the setting, but only for specified target drives - e.g. F: and G: ?

Just FYI, you can use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy something the explorer way.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Hi Peter. Why do you say that? I use TCmd with a USB flash drive without having the Explorerforcopy setting in my .ini and i have not noticed any problems...

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

I am using a Pockey 10gb external drive (using USB 1.1). Copying a few files is no problem, but if I want to copy a directory containing (say) 300mb, being a fresh compressed backup of important data, it is more reliable to use the Explorer method.

I am not suggesting that TC is at fault. The Pockey driver may be less than perfect.

Peter

Hmm, did you encounter any problems? I also have an external USB harddisk for frequent backups (monthly go to CD-R), and copying to the USB harddisk has never been a problem with TC...

Yes, problems with writing errors being reported, and writing seeming to get stuck.

These problems seem to have arisen since I began using Windows XP Pro. I don't recall such problems when using Windows 98.

I see - Total Commander 6.0 will support CopyFileEx as an option for certain drives - this is a standard function, and it may work better with problematic drives than my own copy loop. And this way I will also be able to support file comments, which are not supported with ExplorerForCopy.
