[suggestion] Tab with own width in multiple lines

Post by *TychoBarfy »

I have a small problem with tabs.

I refer to this thread and open a new one because I feel, that everyone is more concentrated
on the new TC 7:

http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=102242#102242

If I mark "All tabs have the same width" in the options of Folder Tabs, "Tabs on multiple lines" is
unmarked.

But I would like to have both. My problem is, that I always have between 10 and 15 tabs open at
the right side, where some of them are locked.

Would be great, if one could give the tabs a fixed width on multiple lines. If I only chose
"All tabs have the same width" the tabs have a width of barely one cm with 15 tabs .

And if one feature suspends the other, shouldn't this be solved with radio buttons rather than with
check boxes?

Moreover I determined, that with tabs in one line the buttons of navigation arrows have a XP stylish
life of its own. Unlike the other window elements they are light blue.

Stance asked me (I translate):
But if you could take these options, wouldn't than for example in 2 lines only be a few
tabs with free space behind the last?
I like the existing solution better, with stretched tabs.
I answered (I translate):
2Stance, this bit of space at the right of the last tab in a line wouldn't matter to me.
I prefer usability.
If at the same time it would be possible, to define the own tab width, everybody could define his
own width with only a few inputs and applies, so that it works optimal for ever respectively as long
as he uses the same resolution (may be these values should reside in the resolution sections
i.e. [1280x1024 (10x20)]).

Everyone could take his own decision.

This could look like that:

Code: Select all

[check box] All tabs have the same width [check box] own width [120 ] px
Tabs in (radio button) multiple lines (radio button) one line

Finaly take a look at the suggestion of FOE in the other thread mentioned above too.

Now I think it's time to push my post again before 7.0 Final...

Support++ for the 'fixed width' feature of tabs.

Two - minor - modifications:
- 'fixed width' instead of 'own width' as the [edit field] text.
- width in [edit field] not in 'px' but in 'character' (no text instead of 'px').

Tabs with 'fixed width' (width defined by user) should be a part of the standard implementation of tabs.

'fixed width' would be OK too.
What about [edit field] 'chars' instead of 'px'?

It's like the row

Code: Select all

[ ] Limit tab title length to: [ nn] characters
at the 'Folder Tabs' Configuration page, and just to make it easier to implement...

Code: Select all

[ ] All tabs have same width [ ] fixed width: [ nn] characters
