Image File Type Conversion Plug-in
A plug-in I've been missing is one to convert image file types from one format to another. The typical list should include bmp, jpg, gif, png, tif and any other you might find useful. It would be a nice idea if we could also be able to define the compression ration, subfile type, color depth and the like.

Hi pdavit,
I always use the powerful command line interface of IrfanView for this. I have some start-menu entries for my common conversions, for example a entry for converting als gifs to jpg would be
Command: C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe
Parameters: %P*.gif /convert=%P*.jpg
Regards,
~ Florian

For simply converting by selecting the destination type via context menu try "Irfanview Shell extension"convert image file types from one format to another

XNView also has a very powerful convertion-tool (nconvert.exe). It can not only convert the format but also resize, apply filters, change coloredepth etc...
it would be nice to get advantage of irfanview converting abilities , command line or other... & have a plugin for TC that can be some kind of a wrapper for irfanview
so you could select files , chose 'irfanview wrapper' plugin (filesystem or packer plugin) , a window would pop-up to set required parameters then 'ok' or 'convert' button & you're done
i believe that writing such plugin would be an easier task than write converting plugin from scratch , but i'm not a programmer
so don't blame me for this stupid
idea
btw. irfanview has batch converting/rename (gui) tool that i find very useful but my imagination sees that in TC environment
cheers

What you all have suggested here is a step forward in functionality but it's not practical and fast to set the parameters of the conversion itself; or is the process based by calling a dialog box? What has been suggested looks as if it takes place immediately by using previously arraigned parameters of the external applications themselves.

Jonas,
XNView also has a very powerful convertion-tool (nconvert.exe). It can not only convert the format but also resize, apply filters, change coloredepth etc...
By any chance, do you know how to specify which LWF format to use (Progressive or Baseline) when using NConvert? I haven't found anything and it doesn't seem to take the ini settings.
TIA
Roman

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Almost three years now since my little (big) request of a plug-in to convert
image files. I love AudioConverter for mp3s. It's an excellent WCX plug-in
and I wish we had something similar for image files as well!
Anyone?!
Maybe just a front-end for your popular command-based suggestions?
That will equally do!
I know that the Imagine plug-in can convert also. But I need to exclude conversion
via the context menu or using a plug-in as a stand-alone tool. Plus I need to
convert multiple images in one go and be able to adjust some quality settings
that extend from the quite basic ones provided by Imagine.

This would be very useful plugin. I know I can do this through command-line interface of IrfanView or XnView. But Total Commander plugin would simplify this very much. I often need to resize images first of all. Image conversion for me is not very important. Conversion of JPG -> GIF is impossible in any events. It will greatly impede the quality of the image. GIF to JPG conversion is also bad idea. However BMP to GIF, JPG, PNG - that is only suitable conversion option.
Another thing I also use is to optimize GIF files (change quantity of colors in GIF file).
Anyway the plugin would be quite popular, especcialy if it has a lot of options.

For this purpose I use JHEAD (mentioned before on this forum) and JPEGTRAN. Both are command line utilites, and especially useful if your camera has orientation sensor. That makes right orientation of all digital images simply a press of a button in TC. Of course jpeg lossless rotation.[/url]Ergo wrote:I want to add that the most frequent action for me is to rotate JPG images (photos from digital camera) without loosing quality. Even very specialized plugin that can do only this would be very popular!
