IMGView: can't preview *.emf

Post by *danielix »

Greetings!

I can't preview *emf graphics with IMGView using both F3 and Ctrl-Q. What could be the problem? My particular emf files, maybe (created with Stata, a common statistical program)? Others out there having the same problem?

Thanks!

Cheers,
D.

P.S.: Apart from this minor glitch, IMGView is great!

You probably do not have Windows security fix installed. There have been found a problem with processing EMF/WMF files, and Ghisler turned working with EMF/WMF files off. You should install the security fix (KB912919), or (not recommended!) turn the processing forcibly on using the WmfAllowed key.

Thanks, Flint!

I have installed KB912919, but still couldn't view emf/wmf in the lister. I have added *WmfAllowed=3* and it works. Why is that not recommended?

(TC 6.56; Win XP Pro/SP2)

Now, that you have installed the security fix, it is wery well recommended :-) It wasnt recommended without installing the fix first.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Ah, right, that was changed in TC7 only... In TC 6.56 you have to set WmfAllowed=3 manually.

Yes, for 6.56. In the first place, I was writing concerning TC7; it turns WMF/EMF automatically, that's why I wrote that manual WmfAllowed was not recommended (e.g. when you reinstall Windows and forget to install that hotfix, and continue to use TC with the same wincmd.ini...)

Following Christian Ghisler's advice, I have modified the code of my ImgView lister plugin (using code fragments provided by Chr. G. himself) in order to avoid any problems due to the WMF safety gap (even if the appropriate Microsoft patch has not been installed). This applies to all ImgView versions which have ever been made available for download by the public. So there should be no reason to worry about activating the TC setting WmfAllowed=3.
