[Wish] Feed selected files to listbox

Post by *Achiles »

I work with a gigantic number of files, actually search among them all the time. I do all my searches with TC, and I think it would be useful to have this feature.

One could select multiple files from the search results window (either by Ctrl/Shift+click or click/"unclick"), and the 'Feed to listbox' button would render only the selected files to the listbox.

It would help especially with very large numbers of search results, many of which are - of course - irrelevant.
Other than that, if the found files are a few directories deep, the listbox is usually not wide enough to let one see the most interesting thing: the filename. Sure, tooltip helps but it's slow; and sometimes, but not always, it helps if you change the window width.
So, limiting the number of files fed to the listbox would be of great help.

Possible? Thank you.

Welcome aboard!

Is a contradiction: you have the same deep directory even in list or search and results window.

Try to be more specific, in search with more conditions in order to obtain a short list of results. Combine that with selection, save selection and so on.

See below:

Maybe help you with yours huge lot of files... :lol:

Thanks for your help. However, this won't work for me. Installing Locate32 onto every machine in my network would be too much.
Plus, FSE tries to find locate.exe in D:\program Files\... (?? :D )

No contradiction. Search results are displayed using a smaller font than in the file window. Thus, more text gets displayed. And yes, I know TC is customizable but I like the way my installation looks currently.

But anyway, that was not the point. The point is to be able to list only 5 or 10 files that are relevant. As things are now, one has to pick from the potentially huge list in the listbox or repeat (or load a saved version of) the search.

So my question still stands. Possible? Useful?

Possible?
Yep. Maybe this will solve your problem:
1st: search, press "Feed to listbox"
2nd: mark all needed files
3rd: menu Show/Only Selected Files

Hope the result is what you want. :)

Yes, this is pretty close to what I want. Close :)
I still wish though.

Thx.

Exactly what I sad.
Sorry for misunderstanding. I saw you are new, but I supposed, only in Forum.

With TreeCopy Plugin you can also extend copy with entire path from feed list.

Thanks for accurate.

Just change this in FDE.INI file, stored in WFX plugin directory:

[Locate]
Path=c:\program files\locate
Limit=100
BranchView=1
SepThreads=0
