[feature suggestion] Change directory command improvements
There are two wishes for CD (change directory) command
1. I wish CD command can change not only path and files viewed but also sorting order, for example:
cd c:\downloads\ :date :rev - sorts files by date in reversed order
or even
cd c:\MP3 :bv - switches to Branch View
2. Another wish is to make CD command understand filters
cd >Music_files - shows files using Music_files filter

The <cd> command in not a Total Commander internal command but belongs to Microsoft’s operating system. I presume you already know that and maybe I did not understand your feature suggestion clearly.
The author of TC is not responsible for the development of the <cd> command. I cannot think of a workaround where the “aftermath” of the execution of the <cd> command will pass some actions to TC itself as well based on the fact that they are two distinctively separate entities.
Maybe a plug-in in the future can do what you’re asking.

AFAIK cd is a "half-internal" command as TC executes it internally and
by the way Christian already improved that command:
In TC you can type
cd *.exe - that will show you only *.exe files in the panel
try to do this in command line interpreter - you will get an error.
And what about "cd \\\Plugin" ?
So I think the improvement I suggested can be done

That does nothing and it’s pointless any way because <cd> means change directory and the *.exe causes a logical problem for execution! It is certainly not possible to change directory to all directories that have the exe extension!!!

What about it!

If it’s possible that’s fine by me!
Edited: And I will have to ask from Christian to have a dedicated section on the help file with all the additions/extensions to the <cd> command that are part of TC’s functionality and are not included by the DOS command!

Sounds like a good idea! It's too late for 5.51 now, but perhaps in 6.0.cd c:\downloads\ :date :rev - sorts files by date in reversed order

I guess that means that the integration is possible.ghisler(Author) wrote: Sounds like a good idea! It's too late for 5.51 now, but perhaps in 6.0.
Gregory’s suggestion on branched view is equally interesting Christian (for v.6.0

Christian,
In the old forum there was a user who asked for a feature which would "save" the view settings of a folder (when did I stop saying directory, btw?), so eg whenever you change to your downloaded files folder the view changes to By date.
I support this, too.
TIA

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
I welcome the suggested features of Gregory. They would even get better if they were combined with an address bar as suggested in topic "[Feature Suggestion] TC Address Bar".

I prefer the implementation via the 'cd' command. Reason: Saving the settings by folder gives other problems, e.g. what happens in subfolders or in a folder where there are no settings. I see these problems in Explorer: I change the settings in a folder from large icons to list, then switch to a different folder and I'm back to large icons - arrghh.

Well, I assume people have a "default" view that they usually use, for me it's sorting by extension. So for a folder with a view setting saved change it to eg sort by date, and when leaving the folder set it back to sort by extension.

I like this suggestion and in my turn suggest to go farther and add support of this features as command line parameters to start Commander with.
Moreover, my big dream is "Find File" function command line parameters. As you know Christian decline to implement background search for some reason and suggest to use another instance of Commander for this purpose. But IMHO it cold be mach more convenient to run another Commander instance with already predefined search parameters this way for example from Winconsole or some other comparable tool.[/face]
