TC not reacting on keyboard returning from Irfan View

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC not reacting on keyboard returning from Irfan View

Post by *Chemicus »

Hi,
testing TC 7rc1 I noticed that browsing my fotos the following misbehaviour took place: If a foto is opened by pressing enter (opening Irfan View) and then closed again (focus returning to TC) TC sometimes does not react on Enter or Backspace (sometimes it works immediately, sometimes I have to press Backspace 3 to 10 times) :? . It used to work from version 4.X to 6.56 without problems. (System is WinXP SP2)

Is somebody else having the same problem?

Bye

It's a new Windows XP bug, search for ctfmon in this forum for more information. It occurs after installing either Internet Explorer 7, or the latest MS Office. I can reproduce this bug even with two copies of Notepad.exe, it's not releated to Total Commander. There is no workaround which I could implement.

If you don't use East Asian languages and don't need to change keyboard layouts, you can turn off ctfmon:
In "Control Panel" - "Regional and language options" - "Languages" tab click on "Details".
Then go to the "Advanced" tab and check the option "Turn off advanced text services", and close all dialogs with OK.

Unfortunately I fear that now that Vista is out, Microsoft will not fix this bug in XP. :(

Thanks for the fast reply. The workaround works fine for me. What I still do not understand is, why the problem does not occur on my work computer, where I also have XP SP2 with IE7 but TC 6.56. And also the advanced text services are still running (not that I would need them) :?:

Maybe you just don't have multiple languages installed on your work system? As I wrote, the problem is not TC7-specific, I could reproduce it with TC6.56 and even with notepad.exe.

It's OK for me, as long as it is that simple to solve the problem. Thanks again for your effort and of course for writing one of my favourite tools!
