Minor bug using PgDn in filepanel

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Minor bug using PgDn in filepanel

Post by *wanderer »

TC 7.00: When in full mode, pressing PgDn places the cursor at the last item in the filelist. Subsequent PgDn keypresses keep the cursor placed at the last item. If in brief mode, PgDn keypresses place the cursor -1 item from the last selected item each time so the cursor keeps moving up instead of remaining on the last item of the last fully-visible column. PgUp has a similar effect. I've seen this in brief mode having 2 full-width columns visible and a third partially visible.

Just noticed that TC 6.56 had the same behavior too.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Not confirmed here (TC7.00 / 6.56, W2k SP4) although playing around with different sizes and views.
Have you tried with a clean/new INI?
Who the hell is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk?

Yup. It does the same.

Brief mode. 2 Columns fully visible.

The 1st PgDn places cursor in the last item of the 2nd column.
The 2nd PgDn places cursor in the last item-1 of the 2nd column.
The 3rd PgDn places cursor in the last item-2 of the 2nd column.
etc...

Ah, now I get it (I thought you were talking of the file at the end of the list).

Confirmed.

Yep, confirmed. I always thought this is somehow by design or so.

I have tested that now: Total Commander does not handle PageDown at all, it's handled by the Windows listbox control! It seems that PageDown always jumps by the number of items in the listbox minus one, also in brief view! This makes sense in full view, but jumps one file up per pgdn in brief view...

:) I'll still use PgDn. I'm used to it. I reported this bug because i noticed it. If it's too much trouble to fix it, it's OK for me, it's not that serious after all. Better to concentrate on other more important issues.

Christian,
Why not simly use cursor right?
Because PageDown jumps through pages and cursor right only through columns.
