Footer gets the color of (inverted) cursor.

Post by *roentgen »

As it's rather hard to reproduce this I refrained myself to post it as a bug.

However it's very annoying for me as it goes into the same category as other visual glitches TC suffers from (flickering, repainting, whatever...).

I use inverted cursor colored black. Whenever the system is low on resources or simply TC entering a large dir (e.g. system32) the footer gets the same black color as the cursor.

I've also seen this when trying to load a slow Lister plugin or when pressing Alt+Enter on a file.

Just before posting here I tried to find methods to reproduce this and it only happened in BriefView mode. However IIRC the FullView mode is affected also.

I have never experienced that, but I often get a white Menu line, especially when accessing network folders or newly inserted CD-rom media.

I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce either of these problems. Anyone else?

I have never notified such behaviour. But I solely use the classic Look in XP.

Maybe there exist some theme-related repainting-problems, but that's just a wild gues...

To get the white menu bar:

(some of the folder names might be different - translated from Danish)

1. Open Network Neigbourhood in a file panel
2. Click on "Entire Network"
3. Click on "Microsoft Windows Network"
4. Click on your home network (often called Mshome)
5. Click on a remote computer name
6. Now Windows is reading network information wich takes some time
7. During that time click a couple of times on a file or folder in the opposite file panel, or on a button in the Button bar.
8. Now you should get the white menu bar.

This is testet on a "Microsoft Windows Network" between two computers connected through a 10/100Mbps switch.

The white menu is a usual Windows behaviour with hanging applications (if the menu is defined as a Windows resource, of course). I experience it quite often, and AFAIK there's nothing special to TC here.

What about the problem with black footer - I tried but could not reproduce it... I'm using XP Silver style if that matters...

I use the default Windows XP luna blue theme and most of the effects are disabled.

While testing I just figured that it may related to the use of quicksearch dialog. That is: may be reproduced 99% of tries in my system when I use quicksearch.

Here is a short video describing the problem: 7z format and rar format.

Ah, now I could reproduce it, following your video.
BTW, if the cursor is not inversed, the problem also appears, but instead of black line the dotted cursor is shown in the footer!

If you wish, I uploaded the RAR file (which I downloaded earlier) to rapidshare:

I got it, thanks. What you see here is just the plain window background before the dialog box items are being redrawn. TC is busy with the extraction of icons, which can take quite a while especially when there is a virus scanner running in the background. Therefore only simple associations (where there is only one icon per file extension) are extracted in the foreground, all others are loaded in a background thread.

Hm... The dotted rectangle around the text in the status line - is it a plain background too? :?

Please, take a look at this video:
http://flint-inc.ru/Temp/tc/qs.exe
With mouse cursor I have shown the area where the dotted line appears.

A few notes:
- it happens when entering empty directories (no icons should be extracted, right?)
- it happens when pressing F3, Enter, Alt+Enter. No icon extraction as well IMO.
- it gets the color of the cursor, black in my case, dotted line in Flint's case.

Come on... you can do better than spreading exe files all over

Ah, sorry, I only looked under the disappearing quick search dialog! I can see what you mean now.
