Search Files => Edit one file of the result list with F4
Hi, I never understood, why such a simple and useful function is not implemented in Total Commander.
Select one file from the result list and press F4 to simply edit.
I always have to
a) right click and choose from the context menu editor (which opens notedpad and not my favorite editor)
b) or feed before to the listbox and only after then I can edit my file with F4.
1) Is there any workaround for that?
2) Is there any chance this function will be implemented in one of the next releases?
It would be so simple und useful

Support - if F3 can be supported why not F4!

I (not without any reason) suspect, I am not the first one:
I found:

I added that wish to "TC7 suggestions" Subforum.

Press F3 after that you can choose if you want to edit with TC or system setting.
Also, I like 'OpenFileTC' as default editor, which work in this situation very well.
Another method is: right mouse button above desired file, in resulted list of found files.

The problem is that the result list isn't dynamic - the search would have to be repeated if the file was changed. You can use "feed to listbox", though, to edit the file.

But isn't that also the case if one uses the right-click menu in the result list to alter a file? - and still that is possible.he search would have to be repeated if the file was changed

Yes, that is right.petermad wrote:But isn't that also the case if one uses the right-click menu in the result list to alter a file? - and still that is possible.he search would have to be repeated if the file was changed
@christian:
The user should be aware of this of course. The request is not that important, (If you are reluctant of changing this), its more a thing of convenience.

Sorry, Mr. Ghisler, but even for view the list isn't dynamic. So what? Editing doesn't mean renaming a file, but it is still possible.ghisler(Author) wrote:The problem is that the result list isn't dynamic - the search would have to be repeated if the file was changed. In this case F4 can be available only in search which has unchecked search by content check box. What if the content is changed?
The name of the file is the same, if is not used "Save As", into editor.
It is not a huge difference between using F3 or F4 in this modal window (search), but sometimes it's more comfortable to use a single key, in order to keep the search result list and more convenient than "feed to listbox".

Yes but the size, date and attributes might be changed - all options available in advanced search - all of this leading to the file not meeting the search criteria anymore. The name of the file is the same, if is not used "Save As", into editor.
But still - the user should be aware of those things - if not he probably wouldn't be using a prog like TC anyway.

That does not matter. The problem is that the result list isn't dynamic - the search would have to be repeated if the file was changed.
That one isn't dynamic, either. You can use "feed to listbox", though, to edit the file.
