Quick Search + Context Menu

Post by *fegis »

When using quick search and I've selected the file I want (by typing and arrows), when I press my context menu-button the context menu affects the quick search-text and not the file (I can select all or paste). I don't think this is what the user normally wants, making the context menu apply to the file standard would be awesome, maybe with an option to change back to the old behaviour!

Sounds strange for me.

The actual context is the edit field of the quick search dialog.
Maybe I want to paste something, or switch between LR to RL reading...
But as an option, it wouldn't bother me.

<ESC> <WIN-Context> works as expected.

Welcome!

EDIT: too fast for me, HolgerK :)

As long as the quicksearch dialog is open, it has the focus. So currently you would have to close the dialog with ESC before using the context menu key.

But indeed some keyboard operations actually affect the focused file while the QS-dialog is shown (e.g. F3,F4,F5,F6, ALT+ENTER), while others don't, e.g. quickview (CTRL+Q) or the context menu key on the keyboard as you mentioned.

So it would be nice if the bahaviour could be changed at least for STRG+Q. I quite often miss the ability to use STG+Q while in QS mode. About the context menu key I have no strong feelings, as I never use this key. But as a noption, why not.

You are right.
And one of them is <SHIFT+F10>.
Doing exactly what fegis suggested.

Ah, I see. So the way SHIFT+F10 works seemd to be intended, and it was perhaps forgotten to adapt the behaviour of the context menu key when it was introduced on keybords.

So perhaps this behaviour (and CTRL+Q, please) can be changed (if it is not intentional).

<CTRL-Q> works fine with quick search, if it's activated before starting the quick search.

We are talking about saving one single keystroke: <ESC>.

And maybe the edit field context menu is useful while editing unicode strings,
or for language support with RL-reading (thinking about the upcoming TC7.5 with unicode support).
Vista adds some new entries in this place like:
"Insert Unicode control character->LRE/RLE start right<->left embedding"

I know, thanks :-) And I use this very often. But in some cases, when quicksearching in a directory with very large images, PDFs, video or audio files, I prefer to do QS with quickview disabled, but immediately after I found the file, I like to view it. I can live with pressing ESC first though, but it would be a bit nicer if I wouldn't have to. Although it is just a single keypress, this can sum up over a long workday...

You are right about the context menu, it can be of use for both, the QS-dialog and the focused file. So this may stay like it is, as I said I don't care about the context menu key. But CTRL+Q does not affect the entered QS-string anyway, so I think it would be consistent if it would work just like the mentioned F3,F4-etc. keys.
