when i try to view the content of a folder over a network connection and the folder contains a huge number of files (in my case 50000 image files) then Total Commander first reads the list of all before allowing further interaction. It would be get to perform this reading of the list of files in a separate thread like MS Explorer does (one of the few cases where explorer is better
