Well, there are external mouse driver add-ons around which support this feature.
Personally I rate it very dangerous in combination with TC !

Just imagine I mark some files at the left panel for deletion and (avoid using keyboard) I click on F8 button on the function key bar at the right bottom.
Therefore I will move the mouse pointer straight over the right panel (and may activate it).

This means I will delete the file(s) at the right handed panel by chance !

Same for crossing the other panel for clicking on a button on top button bar which handles files of active panel.

No thanks, I refuse.

How about installing KatMouse < http://ehiti.de/katmouse/ >
then you will have scrolling enabled anywhere, whithout setting focus to the element - that's really what you need.

Focus, really!

:) Hello Peter !

• I guess that KucingLapar means “get the focus really” by hovering, not only the capability to scroll the inactive panel…
- I have that (scroll only) with my old Logitech mouse and driver, but many times I would love such an option,
especially when working with F T P, and also because now I use SingleClickStart=6 that's great,
but needs to use the Tab key continually…

• I would support as an option if feasible…

I would like to have the option to "autoraise" the panel under the mouse pointer too.

It is not possible to use for example TweakUI from Microsoft in XP or a Registry-setting for Vista. Both works well for all other programs, but not for TC. The Katmouse (or some Logitech devices) are both useful but are not installed everywhere.

sqa_wizard might be right with the fact that it could be dangerous in some cases. I believe this setting should be a Ini-setting only and therefore for powerusers. By the way I use the keyboard for delete.

It could be realized in such a way that this function is active only in the file-window however not for the function key bar.

I'm just curious:
What is the benefit of making the panel active without using keyboard or clicking on it (beside of scrolling)?

I guess maybe to see which file/dir that is currently selected in that panel (if it is already scrolled into view) ??

:) Hello !
…What is the benefit of making the panel active without using keyboard or clicking on it (beside of scrolling)?
• On THIS IMAGE, you can see what I mean :
1. I start a F T P connection, so I get the local folders at right, according to my settings, the panel has the focus
(yellow title-bar), while the remote one is not focused (orange bar).
2. To open the same remote folder at left, I ought either click twice on it - to get the focus and open, so the benefit of
SingleClickStart=6 is lost, or press the TAB key to get the focus, then click on to open, that's irritating.
3. Same mess when coming back to the local folders whether I've to open n…others to upload N… files from.

• I agree with Stance that such an option could be an INI entry only for advanced users; however,
like him I use only the keyboard to delete - I don't display the F* buttons - so the risk is limited,
supposing I touch the DEL key accidentally, anyway the selected file¦s (if any) will go in the RecycleBin,
hence easy to recover since that thingy is always quite empty here !
- If a remote file is deleted, I just re_upload it, that's all…:D

that is true. but to reduce this risk, maybe we could have an option to set hovering delay time before the panel gets auto focus

autofocus panels

Post by *drumhellar »

I think an option to make TC obey Windows' settings for focus follows mouse would be the best way.

I don't think it's dangerous (especially with a delay), as people who use this setting are usually accustomed to it's behavior.

Thanks for this hint :) .
No need manufacturer's installations any more.
