Commander will not change drives

Post by *Capt Jack »

This is very strange, I have been using Commander for years. Now all of a sudden it will not change to a different drive letter. I have uninstalled, cleaned registries re-installed without success.

Any suggestions will be very appreciated.

More information required....

Is the drive letter associated to:
- Another partition of the harddisk
- Another physical harddisk
- A CD or DVD drive
- A removable drive (card reader, usb drive, usb stick)
- A device (cell phone, mp3 player, etc.)
- A network share
- A substituted folder
- etc.

And how do you try to change drive:
- With drive button bar
- With drive combobox
- With a cd command
- Navigating in a tree view (separate or in panel - Ctrl+Shift+F8 or Ctrl+F8 )
- With an internal command (cm_GotoDriveX, cm_GotoPreviousDrive or cm_GotoNextDrive)
- etc.

I use the drop down box in the upper left corner to select a different drive.

It will not go to the CD on D: drive, USB thumb drive on E: drive, etc.

The drop down box shows the drives, I can highlight the drive but nothing happens.

Maybe you are clicking on the part that shows the drive label (the right part). That doesn't work - click on the part with the drive letters [d] to change drive...

Some programs which install a system-wide keyboard/mouse hook to listen to key presses can cause that, e.g. programs with secure password entry, some translation programs or password phishing worms. Did you install any new program recently, just before this problem started?

Btw, you can use the drive buttonbar to access the drives instead: Configuration - Options - Layout.
