SearchInFile question
The new TC6 is great, I especially like the new tabs and the SynchDir between zip files function. I have a question regarding the Alt-F7 search function when the archive checkbox is enabled.
In the history.txt and the help file it says that in order to also search inside "exotic" archive types (in my case *.pak files), you need to add the "SearchInFiles" key to the ini-file. However, it doesn't seem to make any difference, it works no matter what (which is good of course).
The pak extension (with its wcx plugin) is registered for TC so it knows that it's an archive when pressing Enter on such a file.
I just wonder what's the deal with the "SearchInFiles" key? Also, is there any way to make TC also search archives within archives?

Could be similar to the problem of roberthr?

Hello aguirRe, nice 2 C U again! -Well, my guess is that the "SearchInFiles" is a way to tell TC that these files may also be some kind of an archive. Let's say you make a ZIP file BUT the extension (for some strange reason) is BJP, TC will not try to search inside this file (to see if it's an archive). However, if you set SearchInFiles=*.bjp, it will!...to also search inside "exotic" archive types (in my case *.pak files), you need to add the "SearchInFiles" key to the ini-file. However, it doesn't seem to make any difference, it works no matter what (which is good of course).

Thanks j.x, yes I know what it's supposed to mean, I've been through the help file. The point I'm trying to make is that at least for the pak extension (which in my case is registered in another section of TC), this ini-file key doesn't seem to be make a difference at all, although the history.txt and the help tells a different story.
So basically, I'd like to know why it's not required in this particular case and also whether it's possible to also search archives within archives with TC6.
I have a large amount of zip files with different names but they all contain another archive (in pak format) which in most cases has the same name. Therefore it's a hassle to first unpack all of the inner archives to a series of directories following the outer archive name and then finally search these unzipped pak files for their contents.
Maybe I'm not explaining it very well ...

Sorry, I mean that probably *.pak is a known archive since you have registered a packer plug-in that uses this extension. TC knows that *.zip, *.arj, *.cab, and so on, are archives, because it is the "normal" extensions for it's known packers. In your case, *.pak is known since you've added a plug-in, and that's why it's not required. In my case *.pak is an unknown file type (without the plug-in).So basically, I'd like to know why it's not required in this particular case
Sorry, I don't know about this one. Are you looking for some kind of Search In Nested Archives parameter?I have a large amount of zip files with different names but they all contain another archive...

That is also what I was thinking, I just wanted a confirmation from Christian that packer plugins can extend searchability without using the SearchInFile key, I haven't seen any info about this in the help. Maybe there are other exceptions too, and then I'd like to know about them.
As for searching in archives within archives, either a separate checkbox or just always do it as part of the normal search archive functionality. I can't see how that could be a bad thing for anyone, it's probably not a very common situation. Except for me that is ...
