Funny SystemInformation Folder

Post by *krojc »

Mr. G! You are a machine! "TC 6.0 really is the only reason for still using MS Windows!" as pdavit's sig.

OK! I found something quite unexplainable. My System Information Folder on win 2000 sometimes shows some strange chars after the name as a extension. Its ".$??"! I have reproduced this behavior a few times, but I'm not always successfull. It's something with opening and closing tabs!
Until now I never saw this extension.
What the hell is going on with my box. Maybe I need to reboot or even reinstall!

After all this Q and A's and bugfixes are done, we could restart the linux version topic :)

Can anyone else reproduce this problem? Unfortunately I can't! Please let me know if you find a reproduceable way to get this error. Thanks!

I never heard of such a folder. I'm using XP Pro and I just have a "System Volume Information" folder in each volume root folder. Do you mean this folder or another one?

OK! This is not TC Specific! so it must be Windows!
I managed to reproduce it a few times with duplicate/lock/Close all tabs (but again I'm not always successful). I checked it in explorer with "refresh" and it also showed the".$?Ö" extension! In Explorer I can also open the Sys Vol Info Folder, but it's empty! I guess It's the some strange windows issue since there is no reference whatsoever on the internet and that folder - as I know - was not suppose to get opened.

I'm reinstalling Win2000!
