Forum rule 9.) Use a title that describes the content

Post by *white »

I think these are bad examples in this forum:
 Some feature requests
 A Couple of Questions
 TC6 crash
 A question about V6.0 and a BUG maybe
 Background transfer manager request
 Directory Hotlist Question

Maybe people who have multiple questions or remarks, could write several messages, all with one topic.

Maybe you can give the "good" versions of those topic title as well? Because I don't see what's sooo terribly wrong with 'em...

"Directory Hotlist Question" was mine and that's exactly what it was. What is wrong with that?

white is right...

1. Some feature requests
2. A Couple of Questions
3. TC6 crash
4. A question about V6.0 and a BUG maybe
5. Background transfer manager request
6. Directory Hotlist Question

1. Feature request: XYZ (and another topic for another feature)
2. Question [HOW TO DO XYZ,ADVICE?] (and another topic for another question)
3. TC6 crash on... when... after... XYZ
4. TC6 BUG when... on... after... XYZ
5. Feature request: improving BTM
6. Directory Hotlist [HOW TO,ADVICE,HELP?]

maybe it looks like there are no big differences, but there are. if you type "Directory Hotlist Question", 10 people will read it. but if you type "key shortcut for directory hotlist",100 people will read it. just for your good, write better topics. most of the time i dont click on them because they're written a bit lame way.

I think the title should be as specific as possible. That way other readers are more able to determine whether a thread is worth reading.

"Directory Hotlist Question" is exactly what it was, but too general. How can people deside if your question is worth reading, if they don't know the question? So try to include your question in the title.

Examples:
5. TC60 Left and right dirs of Dir Hotlist entry swapped?
6. TC60 Req resizable window Background transfer manager

But don't forget, if people know what the thread is going to be about they won't feel the need to open it anymore... You must not reveal everything in the topic itself, there has to be some mystery left for the thread.
