New poll: Who wants list of internal commands to be sorted?

Post by *white »

This poll is actually a few days old. I did not realize before that I was allowed to announce the poll in this forum (as stated in the Total Commander Forum Index).

[Edited]By sorted I mean sorted alphabetically[/Edited]

But sorted by what? Currently it's sorted by menus in which the commands appear, and the commands without menus appear at the end.

The only place it would be nice to have them sorted would be alphabetically in the change button bar drop down menu. It would be easier to find them that way. ;)

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

I don't think it's a big deal. The current TOTALCMD.INC is function grouped and better for reading or searching. It's very easy to sort it alphabetically by hand.

Yes but when you are editing the button bar, all the internal commands appear unsorted in the combobox. You have to search in the list to find the command you want, and no, typing the first letters of the command does not help much because most of the time, you don't remember the exact name of the command you wish to use. :)

@wanderer

You can sort the TOTALCMD.INC content alphabetically by a text editor. Then put it in Totalcmd's folder. After that when clicking the drop_down menu, all internal commanders will appear alphabetically. Does this help a little? :D

That's exactly what I had in mind. Thank you Boofo for making it more clear.

This point is already discussed in the thread of the poll.

No, unfortunately not! :) I tried it just before posting and the combo box in the button bar setup still had them unsorted! Is there a place that they do appear sorted?

Mine are sorted alphabetically in the drop down in the button bar configuartion. I alphabetized the totalcmd.inc and it works fine.

@wanderer

Are you sure you've put the sorted TOTALCMD.INC into Totalcmd folder and overwrited the original one? If so, it should works.

Yes, i'm quite sure. That was not the problem. The problem was that i executed TCmd from a different dir (i have a local and a network installation) :oops:

Thanks for the tip.
