Tab headers in brief mode
Currently tab headers in brief mode may be only used for sorting tasks and its length has no meaning.
It would be great if in brief mode tab headers reflect tabstop widths which are used for status bar (and user may change tabstop widths by dragging tab headers).
So, user will have possibility to change tab headers widths in brief mode too.

I have another suggestion for tabstop headers - TC may leave tabstop headers unchanged after switching from last full or custom mode to brief - so user still may sort files by custom fields in brief mode.
Of course it would be great if TC may show contents of tabstop header columns in status bar in brief mode and allow to change fields widths by resizing tabstops in header.

Currently this isn't planned because it would result in even more confusion than the current fixed with headers.
To change the tabs in the footer, do the following:
1. Switch to full view
2. Adjust the tabstops
3. Switch back to brief view
4. Choose Configuration - Save position to save the tab widths

No, but they are shown in the normal file list! TC uses the same positions in the file lists of full view as in the footer of brief view.
