Shift+F6 behavior in Ctrl+B mode

Post by *totfun »

In a folder (Members) I have n subfolders named Tony, Bob,...., Mario.
Each subfolder contains a file named November.doc (among other files).

I want to rename all "November.doc" files, "December.doc"

I do the following steps:

(In Members)
1) I press Ctrl+B
2) I select all files named November.doc
3) I press Shift+F6
4) I write a new name: December.doc
5) I press Enter

6) A message appears: "You cannot move or copy more than one file to a single file!"

Of course, I can perform same (rare) operation in other ways too. So no problem.
Nevertheless I don't understand why I am wrong when I try the described steps.

Shift+F5 has a similar behavior.

(WinMe/TC6)

Hi totfun,

when you do a selection the shift+F6 will be use for a move and not a rename anymore.

I think the best way would be to make a search, feed the search result to the listbox and use the multirename.
ALT+F7
search for november.doc
Feed to listbox
* from the numpad (or CTRL+A)
CTRL+M
file name: december.doc
Start

Hello,

1) Ctrl+B
2) Select the files to be changed
3) Ctrl+M
4) Change value of filename (In your case: December)
5) Press Enter
Greetings,
Rob

hello,
2 lebans and Coco
Thank you for your suggestions!

More about Ctrl+B

Is there a way to copy selected files, in Ctrl+B mode, keeping folders structure?

There is WCX plugin for that - treecopy.
If you want to copy from brabch view and save folder structure, associate this plugin with any extension (treecopy, for example) and "pack" files from branch view to desired location.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Just had an idea - when in Branch Mode, shift+f6 would show the name of the file along with the path...

Anyway, why shift+f6 is not possible? TC knows where each file belongs to, even if several files share the same name, so there should be no problem renaming any of them! Where is the catch?!

Shift+F6 is rename/move. So when you use Shift+F6 in branch view, the renamed files will be moved to the root of the branch, where only one file of the same name can exist.
