Faster browsing of images with Quick View

Post by *Jibz »

With Quick View (CTRL-Q) enabled, using IrfanView as image viewer, when I browse through a folder of images it takes a while (1-2 seconds) for each image to load into the Quick View panel.

I assume this is because IrfanView is run as an external program on each file, and TC waits for the resulting image.

It is however very annoying to have to wait 2 seconds for each single image to load when all you want to do is skip down 5 images.

For instance in DO, the Lister Viewer panel just says "loading" and you can still move the cursor up/down to the file you really want.

Would it be possible to run IrfanView in the background, without having TC wait for the result before letting the user do anything?

AFAIK IrfanView works slowly with TC because it sends image to TC in Windows message.

I recommend you to use special TC image viewer plugin like Imagine - it's the best and doesn't need to be loaded every time.

Open IrfanView,
View -> Display options (window mode)
Uncheck:
[x] Use "Resample" for fitting (better quality)

That should speed up image resizing, TC doesn't handle (non-bitmap) images internally at all, you need to use XnView|IrfanView or one of the TC image plugins.
