Any reaons why that tutorial is so damned colorful, with different fonts in every second line, italic, bold, mixed colors? I can't concentrate when my eyes are permanently distracted. Some more contrast with black&white and some conservative style would make more sense for a tutorial imho.
This TC screenshot is the ugliest thing I've ever seen, well, tastes are different of course... ;)

Anyway, you spent lots of time to make that tutorial I'm sure so I hope that there are people besides me that will like it.

This is definitely a valuable source for TC-info, and content-wise I kinda prefer it to the original help-file...

BUT: like icfu says, it doesn't look very good, and isn't too nice to the eyes. I think the work put into it is suffering from the looks of it, and I'd recommend an upgrade in the interface, by using more common colours and fonts and also images/icons.
Also, like icfu says, the screenshot of TC isn't particularly nice, but I suppose you use it to show how much it is possible to put into the TC-GUI... Would you be interested in some suggestions for screenshots and general look of the tutorial?

one more thing: (sounds like I don't like this at all, but I do! ;) ) I would remove the frame-thing that is top of the .chm-version. It really serves no purpose but to annoy, IMO. On my 800x600 display it even shows scrollbars in it, which makes it even less helpful...

Please don't consider this criticism of your work, Clo, I think it's a good effort, but maybe you should have these remarks in mind whenever you decide to update the tutorial again ;)

Hello!
:D First, you have to know that this folder exists for... almost 20 months, and has been updated for each new TC version...
:!: .... and the French version is older...
¤ I created this Tutorial especially for two categories of users:
1 - The youngest, who like coloured and a bit funny pages,
2 - The oldies like myself, a little short-sighted generally.
----------------------------
The main interface, like you thought, must show the whole items which can be displayed; so, isn't real for use, necessarily... Moreover, it's a "reactive picture" (Client-side Image), from which you can reach almost all topics.
* Since it's a huge work to remake that pic (an its codes...), I planned to change it for the next version (I mean having so many changes).
* Maybe in the XP-look, but not too White-grey-black-sad-depressing-M$...
-----------------------------
¤ About the title-frame-thing, no problem, it can be removed easily. I added it, since in other Help-folders (not TC), users asked for one...
But you're right, with 600*800, that leaves a smaller useful window.
Please, notice that I didn't add a TOC, I hate that for the same reason than before.
-----------------------------
¤ I think that icfu didn't understand very well the reason to have successively a line in bold font, and the next as normal (or less bold). It's the list structure to avoid a lot of complicated tables, difficult to increase when updating the folder... For instance, for an option dialog, the bold "title" line shows the entry (box to tick), and the second below the explanations for that entry, which begins with a small icon generally...
A list-structure is VERY easy to change / update...
------------------------------
¤ The whole of styles comes from a huge style-sheet... Hence, whether you know the HTML enough, I give you the permission to make you own style-sheet from the original. Of course, you'll have to download the HTML version. This as so long as you will not change the text, because it's mainly the Ch. Ghisler's one, except some notes... and the background-colours (the images are not on "transparent", they have the same BG). And also, NOT use Front-Page or similar to change any code!
Only a pure HTML code-editor...
-------------------------------
Ah! What a relief!
 Please, mailto me if you'ld wish more info (i.e. to compile into CHM)
 Finally, about this folder: one likes, or one hates, you're the rare one in the middle!
:) @+++ Friendly,
Clo

Hello Clo,

thank You for Your great tutorial.

To make it better readable on screen (CHM-file) I would prefer using sans-serif fonts like Arial, Helvetica, or Verdana.

On HTML version, everybody who knows about style sheets can do these and other changes by himself/herself.

Best regards
Pete

I guess I'll have to use my css-skills to save this tutorial then ;) Whenever I'm done (if ever...) I'll be sure to get your help compiling the chm! btw: I'm glad you don't take offence, hehe. And everyone has their own preference what TC is concerned, this also makes it such a wonderful filemanager!

:D Hi!
Thank you Pete!
In fact, like you say the look / fonts can be changed in the HTML version...
It's the reason for which I release it... although it's a bigger job!
Only changing the appearance of Win98, you get a quite different TC!
:P This proves too that skins are useless for TC (but it's another subject, though...)

A German one exists too...

:D Hello Pete!
:? Sorry, I forgot to tell you that a German version of the Tutorial exists too for a while...
 Hummm ... It contains no more than the CH. Ghisler's help texts actually. However, some interesting extra-notes are inside, but still in French, hence they are commented (invisible)...
 Since I don't know German really, I launch a "Help!" call here to German users who'ld like to complete this version.
¤ The extra-notes are included in the English version: that'ld allow to add them translating from English, whether nobody can do it directly from French...
 I'm updating this German tutorial actually, because the big changes in TC 6.0x.
8) I don't ask for this job to you especially, indeed! Please, just post a notification on the German Forum... hoping replies in English.
¤ Of course, the Ch. Ghisler's agreement is necessary (he knows this tutorial)
¤ Whether all is OK, I'ld place the HTML-sources (as so earlier as they'll be ready) at a reachable URL...
:) Glad to hear from everyone about this,
friendly,
Claude
