Don't worry! A lot of users posted similar requests here...
I think that'll be fixed up soon...
Just wait for the next version of TC!

Re: please stop the new tabs by clicking a new dir
That's good to hear. I actually deleted all my locked tabs yesterday because I got sick and tired of having to delete all the new ones which keep getting created automatically. The annoyance of the new tabs outweighs the convenience of having locked tabs I'm afraid.Clo wrote:ovm wrote:Oh, I love the tab function, but oh, how do I hate the new created tabs, wich I did not ask for.

Hi!
Waiting for this fix, and to keep you cool -so, avoiding a heart disease-, I advise you to install a button in the toolbar, using the command:
cm_visDirTabs (or: 2916 )
With such a button, you can show / hide the whole tabs by a simple click (it's a flip-flop command). To get the appropriate icon, please visit my Web pages -button here below-, there is a pack reachable from the TC pages... Keep only that you need into this pack, some items are useless for you.
Still friendly,

Just don't use locked tabs, and TC will not create any tabs by itself...

Yes, please Christian.Jqn wrote:... OR insert a new OPTION in wincmd.ini:
CreateNewOnLockedTab=[0/1]
if "1" it creates a Tab
if "0" it sounds a beep.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Just to remind that there is a poll over this
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=2401
Number of vote are quite low but not the number of post.
I would also like something else ... locked tab should act as new root.

Yeah, and if you close Commander with tabs off, you'll lost them all (if you didn't saved them to file before, of course %).[/face]

I have actually gotten used to the "new tab from locked tab" behavior, and in many circumstances I use it as part of my interaction with TC. It does have its uses. That remark not withstanding, however...
Until you can build a tab property dialog such as has been requested elsewhere (where we could turn off the "new tab from locked tab" behavior for specific tabs), perhaps an internal command "cm_CloseAllUnlockedTabs" would be a short-term cleanup workaround for those of us who don't want them.

...seems completely wrong-headed. I need locked tabs and make use of them all the time. (Though as others have requested, I wish they could be made to behave as "roots"). But I also would like to avoid the visual detritus of lots of unlocked tabs caused by my inadvertently clicking folders in locked tabs (which behavior I can't seem to suppress, though I am still trying).Just don't use locked tabs, and TC will not create any tabs by itself...

I save the locked tabs in a file, of course... There is a flaw in this command.

No, this is exactly like it supposed to work by Christian.

This is normal - this doesn't just hide the tabs, it turns them off completely, so they will not be stored either [...] all the tab hotkeys would still be available if they weren't turned off completely! As discussed before, I plan a new tab mode with hidden tabs as some suggested, but this is NOT the same as turning off the tabs. Btw, if you turn them off and later on again in the same session, they will still be there - they will just not be saved to disk.

A nice middle way would be to create a temporal Tab to which all the new tabs would be redirected. Another choice (IMO a better one) is to let the locked tab change the location temporarily, and it'll revert to the locked dir when TC is restarted or user initiates the command, this would be a lot more productive since I keep a couple of locked tabs to some directories I often visit but those contain other dirs... Hmm, that could be very nice, maybe even make it an option (keep old behaviour, or use flexible locked tabs).
Cheers.
