Multi rename tool not working on network

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Multi rename tool not working on network

Post by *Northbull »

Hey guys, im kinda new to total commander, but I have used it once before.

I am trying to rename all *.jpg files in my mp3 folder to "cover.jpg"

I search for *.jpg with the search function > it finds 1500 files > i send them all to listbox and mark them all > I try to use multi rename tool to rename them all to "cover.jpg" > I get an error with no explanation - "could not rename files shown in bold".
It doesn't rename any files =(

Any chance that one of the folders already contains a file named cover.jpg?

Yes Holger, a lot of them already contains files called cover.jpg

Is that a problem?

It gives me a warning about it. It still does not rename any files with other names.

Yes.

MRT does not allow to rename a file, if a file with the new name already exist (The old file would be lost in this case).

Anyway, all other files should be renamed and removed from the initial list.

Try to rename to "cover_1.jpg" and so on, and the list should shrink with every successful rename.
