Setup TC doesn't work on my WinXP on P4 - Help

Post by *tedje99 »

Several times I have tried to install TC on my new computer P4 with winXP but it always stops with a warning: Couldn't write ....(forgot the filename).
Eventually I've copied from my old computer version 5 and it really worked, although some tasks wouldn't work (config).
Is here someone who can help me. TIA :(

:D Hi!
¤ To install any program under XP, you must have the full Admin rights...
Whether TC can't write some file somewhere, it's certainly because it's a read only item (dir or file to overwrite) for you
¤ Do not install TC from an user account having limited rights.
:) Hoping that shall help you,
Friendly regards,
Clo

Thanks for your reply, however....
I take for granted to have full rights, I can install every other program without difficulties.

Hi tedje99,

Did you try to redownload the package?

Try to launch the install when no other programs are running or just after you start your computer.

If it's still not working give us the exact error message with the filename.

"I take for granted to have full rights, I can install every other program without difficulties."
:D Hello!
¤ Just two details:
1. Please, could you try to install again, and note what is the (1st.) file which can't be written by TC?
2. At install-time, you're prompted to choose the <wincmd.ini> file location. Normally, the current default - in the TC dir. - is right under XP.
- Placing this file in <windows> caused problems with NT/XP, hence this choice had been added... Otherwise, that can be changed using the "Inireloc" free tool available at TC Web site under "Addons"...
- I suppose that your XP is installed under NTFS ? It works too under FAT32, but so bad...
Glad to hear more about this issue,
Best regards,
:) friendly,
Clo

I executed everything like you told me, but it still doesn't work and the.hlp-file could not be copied.
I'm still very disappointed.

I choose to put the ini-file under TC, but it wouldn't work.
The first file it then refuses to copy is the help-file, then it closes.
I'm still very disappointed and yes XP is installed under NTFS.

:D Hello!
Maybe a stupid idea...
¤ You told that you copied a 5.51 version into this PC... Have you it still?
* If yes, please verify whether that folder isn't as "read only" or other "exotic" attribute...
That'ld explain why the <wincmd.ini> file can't be set in the TC-dir (when such a folder exists already, it's automatically used by the installer if you answer "yes" or so at the prompt). Try too to change its location by the Inireloc tool before a new install attempt: https://plugins.ghisler.com/addons/inireloc.zip
¤ The *.hlp files are never "read only" in the original archive, I controled this again.
¤ Like "Coco" said , the error-message contain should be mandatory to find (perhaps) the failure cause!
Please, could you place its capture at a reachable URL? Thanks!
Best regards,
8) Friendly,
Clo
