Editing from FTP

Post by *Jqn »

Hi all,
When I need to edit a file from a FTP server, I press F4 then TC transfer it to c:\temp\_tc\ , opens editor and ... deletes temporal folder and local file :!:

I cannot save the modifications by any means, not in my local PC, because the file has disappeared, not in FTP, because TC does not forward again the file to the server.

It is possible that TC retreives the file, send it to editor and forward it to server after editing? (of course, it is possible to make it manually)

This happens if the editor was already open when you pressed F4 (multiple document editor). In this case, Windows returns a bogus program handle, and when TC tries to wait until this program closes, Windows reports that the program isn't running, so TC deletes the temp file...

A quick solution would be to use an editor that has FTP support, such as :

http://www.crimsoneditor.com/
http://www.ultraedit.com/

EditPlus 2 allows you to set up a backup dir that saves copies of the files you edit. :)

Thank you.
I need to update files directly in FTP without local copy.
I've tried Ultraedit and it works fine for me.

(A little question OFF TOPIC:
Someone knows a simple user's interface for Ultraedit's new language configuration?)

That's how Edit Plus 2 works, too. It just also saves a backup copy automatically in case you lose it in FTP or something happens.
