When I tried to copy a file named "alice1~1.htm" to a directory where the file already existed, TC offers the option of "Auto-rename target files".
After selection/activation TC hangs endless in the copy progress bar, until stopped by pressing Cancel, sometimes even that does not work.
Using Total Commander 7.55a on Windows XP SR3.
Hangup when using F5/Copy with "Auto-rename target file

That looks like the short DOS name of some other file with a long name. Can you give me the full name of that file, please?

I was thinking it was the actual name, even though it looks like a "short-name".
Back in Win98 days and a few times using bad tools under Win2K, file names would get munged to their shortname.
I've also seen some backup tools that save previous versions with that type of string.

*BLINK* TC9 Added WM_COPYDATA and WM_USER queries for scripting.

I could reproduce the problem in the meantime. The problem is that when TC renames the file to alice1~1(1).htm, the DOS name still remains alice1~1.htm, so the file doesn't go out of the way for the copied one. I have written a workaround for this problem now for TC 7.56.
