Search files with "Search archives" stops

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Search files with "Search archives" stops

Post by *wazib3 »

I use Total Commander 7.55 on Win XP SP3 HE.
I try to find a files.
I start Commands » Search(Alt-F7), type searching word (field "Search for:") and switch on "Search archives (all except for UC2), choose "Search in:" and push "Start search" button.
Program starts searching but if find sound file (wav or mp3) than stops and not continue (displays hourglass and not go to next files and folders). The same effect is when I choose another disk. But if switch off option "Search archives" it works correctly (but without searching archives). What going on?

Maybe some enctypted archive? Do you using Multiarc addon that may try to open some encrypted archives (e.g. 7-Zip)?

What archive. Searching stops before come to any archive. On the bottow of window display some regular sound file name (on one disk - "some_name.wav", on second disk - "some_name.mp3"). I do not have install Multiarc plug-in.

Please try using process monitor from www.sysinternals.com to find out at what file it stops.

It is not the archive file, but regular sound, exactly: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dane aplikacji\Alwil Software\Avast5\sounds\fw_question.wav". Program not hang up, but stops and not go ahead.
This is capture screen of wrong find files:

And nothing changed (if waiting - nothing happen more).[/img]

What happens when you disable the "Search in archive - option"?

It looks like some packer thinks that this wav file could be an archive, but hangs when it tries to unpack it. Do you use any packer plugins?
